Tried & true incredible Apple Recipes that everyone enjoys! Featuring apple desserts, apple snacks, cookies, breads and more. Easy apple recipe for fall baking or any time of the year.
What are the best apples to use for baking?
Often times baking with apples requires firm, crisp apples like Fuji, Pink Lady, Honey Crisp or Granny Smith. However, there are few recipes that call for softer apples such as Red Delicious or Golden Delicious. Double check with the recipe you’re making as not only the firmness, but also the tartness of the apple can influence how it works in the recipe.
Can apples be frozen?
Yes! If you have plenty of apples, but no immediate plans for using them, freezing your apples is a great way to go. First wash, then peel and shop your apples prior to freezing. You can cut them into small pieces like you’d use in muffins, or larger slices like you’d use in apple crisp. Frozen apples can be used in pretty much any cooked recipes: pies, muffins, cobblers, breads, even applesauce can be made from frozen apples!
Caramel Apple Bread bursting with fresh apple, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, then topped with an incredible 3 ingredient caramel glaze. See the Caramel Apple Bread recipe here.
- 1 cup smooth unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup canola or vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup peeled cored, and finely diced apple (1 apple)
- Caramel Glaze:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 TBSP milk
- Spray a 9- by 5-inch loaf pan with non-stick spray, then set it aside. Preheat the oven to 350°.
- Combine the applesauce, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Whisk well to blend.
- Add in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir just enough to combine; do not over mix. Fold in the apples.
- Transfer the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake on the center oven rack until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean, about 60 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the oven and put it on a cooling rack for about 15 minutes, then remove the loaf from the pan and place it on the rack to finish cooling.
- To make the caramel glaze topping: Melt butter in a small saucepan on medium heat. Add in brown sugar and milk and whisk constantly. Bring to a boil, then boil for 2 minutes while continuing to whisk. Remove from heat and let cool about 30 minutes to 1 hour, until caramel has thickened, stirring every 10 minutes or so. You need to continue the stirring while cooling so that the sugar fully dissolves.
- Pour caramel over the top of the apple bread. Let sit 2-3 hours, until caramel topping has set. Slice and Enjoy! Store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter, or in the fridge. Freeze bread by wrapping completely in plastic wrap twice, then wrapping with foil. Freeze for up to 2 months.

When are apples in season?
Most apples in the United States are in season during the Fall. Buying apples when they’re in season is a great idea because they taste better and are less expensive. Plan on buying apples in season from September thru November.
How long will apples stay fresh
Apples will stay fresh for 4-5 weeks if you store them in a cool, humid place, like the refrigerator. Of course, when you purchase apples from the grocery store, it’s unknown how long ago they were picked, so I usually just plan on them lasting 2-3 weeks refrigerated. Apples like cold temperatures, 30-35 degrees F is ideal, although somewhat unreasonable for traditional households.
Are apples good for you?
Apples are very good for you! They contain high amounts of fiber and antioxidants, which lower cholesterol levels. Apples also contain a lot of water so they’re a fantastic snack that keeps you full for longer. Apples are high in vitamin C and B vitamins as well. Most of the fiber is contained in the apple peel, so try to avoid cutting that off and instead, eat the whole apple.
Do apple seeds contain cyanide?
Yes, apple seeds contain cyanide, so eating too many can be detrimental. Note that it would take a lot of consumed apple seeds to cause any problems for you though!
