Country Apple Dumplings are the easiest baked apple dumplings EVER! They’re made with crescent rolls, then baked with butter-cinnamon sugar perfection- plus some 7-Up! Try them- you’ll love them! Some of the ingredients might make you wonder, but trust me on this one: these are impossibly delicious. They taste like a small piece of apple tart heaven! They’re best when served immediately, with a scoop of Cool Whip or vanilla ice cream.
What are the best apples to use for apple dumplings?
There are thousands of varieties of apples, so how do you choose which one to use to make apple dumplings? You want a firm, crisp and slightly tart apple. My favorites to use are Pink Lady, Honey Crisp or Fugi apples. These apples are easy to find and aren’t terribly expensive, especially if you buy them in the Fall when apples are in season. I’ve also used Gala apples in this recipe and they taste great as well! You’ll want to avoid using soft, mealy apples like Red Delicious or Golden Delicious in this recipe. Some people like using Granny Smith apples and while I love Granny Smith, I think they’re just a bit too tart for this recipe.
Use Crescent Dough to make Apple Dumpling Recipe
You’ll notice that I use crescent dough to make our apple dumplings recipe. Quite simply, using crescent dough just make these so very easy! You end up baking the dough covered apples in a sweet cinnamon sugar sauce, so it’s hard to even tell when they’re done, that you use crescent dough to make them. I encourage you to try it!
Easy Apple Dumplings ingredients
- 1 large apple {I used a Fuji- any apple will do, tart is better}
- 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough
- butter
- sugar
- cinnamon
- vanilla
- 7-Up soda or equivalent {half the can}
How to Make Apple Dumplings
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8×8 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- Cut each apple into wedges. Slice the apple skin off as well and set aside. Separate the crescent roll dough into triangles. Roll each apple wedge in crescent roll dough starting at the wide end. Pinch to seal and cover apple and place in the baking dish. {This is easier if you first pat the apple wedge dry, then wrap dough around it.}
- Melt butter in a small saucepan* and stir in the sugar and cinnamon. Heat, whisking to combine. The mixture will slowly combine and thicken. When it’s thickened, remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Pour cinnamon mixture over the apple dumplings. Pour soda over the dumplings.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

I have made this & shared it. It is delicious, though doesn’t reheat well so I put it into the oven as dinner is wrapping up or shortly after the table is cleared & it is a perfect end to a delicious meal. Thank you.

Delicious! My husband Loves when I make this recipe! I love it’s a smaller recipe than most recipes I’ve found online. Try it, you won’t regret it!

I’ve been making these a couple of years. They are delicious. They are equally delicious the next day. One change I make is to chop the apples into small pieces (about 1/4 inch) and put a little pile in each crescent. Wrap the crest ant around the pile rather than roll the wedges. It’s like tiny apple pies.
