We love apples. My kids are a bit picky, but apples are a food that we all agree on! We like to eat them plain, but my kids really love having something yummy to dip apple slices in. Often we just dip in plain peanut butter, but adding a few other ingredients makes the peanut butter go farther and gives you more dip for each bite!
What is Cream Cheese Peanut Butter Apple Dip?
Cream cheese peanut butter apple dip is made with peanut butter, cream cheese, brown sugar, milk and vanilla extract. This creamy dip is packed with peanut butter flavor and is perfect for dipping apples…or bananas, graham crackers, cookies or anything else you like to dip in peanut butter!
Ingredients in Peanut Butter Apple Dip
Cream cheese – You can use regular, low-fat or non-fat cream cheese. Make sure the cream cheese has been softened to room temperature before adding to the recipe.
Brown sugar – I always use light brown sugar, but dark brown sugar works too!
Peanut butter – We prefer to use creamy peanut butter for this dip, but you can use crunchy if you’d like.
Milk – Any type of milk works great, so just use whatever you have on hand. You just need 1/4 cup – it helps to thin out the dip a little bit, so feel free to add a little more or a little less depending on the consistency that you prefer.
Vanilla extract – The dip is really good even without the vanilla, but I love the extra flavor the vanilla provides.

What type of cream cheese to use in peanut butter dip?
You can use any variety of cream cheese you’d like. Regular, low-fat, non-fat…they all work great! There have been a few times I’ve been able to find a Greek yogurt cream cheese and I love using that because it adds even more protein, but it’s often hard to find. Just make sure the cream cheese is softened before mixing with the other ingredients, otherwise it is hard to get rid of all of the lumps!
HOW DO YOU SOFTEN CREAM CHEESE?
Cream cheese is easy to soften – you can set it out at room temperature or soften it more quickly in the microwave.
To soften at room temperature more quickly, just set the cream cheese on a plate and cut into smaller pieces. The cream cheese should reach room temperature in about 15-20 minutes with this method.
-To soften the cream cheese in the microwave, remove the foil packaging and set the cream cheese in a small bowl or on a plate. Microwave for about 10-15 seconds. If the cream cheese is still cold and hard, continue to microwave for about 5 seconds at a time until the cream cheese is soft throughout. Just make sure not to microwave it too long or it will start to melt!
HOW DO YOU KEEP THE APPLES SLICES FROM GETTING BROWN?
You can slice the apples just before serving, but if you need to slice them in advance, there are a couple of tricks for keeping the apple slices from turning brown. The best way to prevent the apple slices from browning is to toss them in a bowl filled with a little bit of cold water mixed with 1-2 Tbsp of lemon juice. This will prevent the apples from getting brown and will keep them looking pretty and fresh!
You can also sprinkle a little bit of lemon juice directly on top of the apples, but I have found that submerging the apple slices in the cold water mixed with lemon juice seems to work even better, and it also dilutes the lemon flavor quite a bit which I prefer! You can also brush them with a little bit of soda (Sprite or Ginger Ale) or you can sprinkle Fruit-Fresh on top of them.
Store the apples in the refrigerator in an airtight container until you are ready to serve them.
