What is so special about a bundt cake?
When we talk about Bundt cakes they are not in reference to a single recipe, but to the specific character and shape of the pan. A typical Bundt pan has grooved or fluted sides, and the most defining characteristic is the hole through the center of the cake. There are Bundt pans out there that have more creative features too, some pans have a mountain range shape, there are castle style pans, floral, swirls, really there are so many unique and creative styles the possibilities of cakes are endless.
How long does it take a Bundt cake to cool?
You will want your Bundt cake to cool completely before frosting, that means you will need to remove it from the pan. But wait about 10-20 minutes before removing it from the pan after baking, you want to give it time to set and cool. If you remove from the pan too early you risk the bundt cake breaking apart. Once the cake is removed from the pan you should let it cool for about 10-20 minutes before adding frosting or toppings.
How to prevent cakes from sticking to the pan:
Make sure to grease the inside of your cake pan well and then add in a dusting of flour to help as well. For chocolate-based cakes, using cocoa powder instead of flour works well but flour is best for the lighter colored cakes. You can also use a nonstick baking spray with flour in the mix to make it a little easier as well but I’ve found that manually adding grease + flour works best as the spray doesn’t always help cakes to come out flawlessly.

PEANUT BUTTER BROWNIE BUNDT CAKE
Ingredients
- 15 oz chocolate cake mix
- 18 oz brownie mix
- 4 eggs
- 1 ¼ cups water
- 1 cup oil
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- ½ cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup peanut butter for garnish
- Mini peanut butter cups for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 10 cup bundt pan.
- In a large mixing bowl combine the cake mix, brownie mix, egg, water and oil. Check what ingredients your particular mixes call for as it might be a little different than what I listed. Just make sure to add the listed ingredients for both mixes that they call for on the back of the box.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared bundt pan.
- In a medium mixing bowl combine the cream cheese, sugar, egg and peanut butter. Whisk until smooth.
- Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture on top of the bottom layer of batter.
- Top the peanut butter mixture with the rest of the batter.
- Transfer your bundt pan to a baking sheet and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Do not skip placing your bundt on a baking sheet before baking, overflow can happen through the middle hole sometimes, so it is better safe than sorry.
- Cool the cake for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cool heat up the heavy whipping cream in the microwave for 45 seconds. You want the cream hot, so add another 30 seconds if you need to. Add the chocolate chips put a plate on top of the bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes. Gently whisk the chocolate and cream together until melted and shiny. Drizzle the chocolate ganache all over the top of the cake.
- In a small microwave safe bowl melt your peanut butter for 20 seconds. Drizzle the peanut butter over the top of the cake. Top with chopped or whole mini reeses cups. Enjoy!

Why is my cake so dense?
This can happen if you don’t cream the butter and sugar enough before adding the eggs. Make sure the mixture has turned a light, almost white color before moving on to the next step. It is also important to scrape down the bowl to ensure that everything is uniformly mixed.
Another possibility could be that your baking powder or baking soda has expired. These both cause the cake to rise, so any problem with them will create a really dense cake.
