WHAT IS STRAWBERRY FLUFF SALAD?
Strawberry Fluff dessert salad is a sweet & creamy recipe that is made with fruit and whipped topping. It’s a popular Cool Whip dessert that you can likely find in one of your mom’s old cookbooks! It’s often served as a side dish for a holiday meal, a special occasion or as a fun treat. We love to serve it for Sunday family dinners and this recipe is a family favorite that is served often at our house. Anything that you can call salad, but have it taste like dessert is a winner in my book.
CAN I MAKE THIS STRAWBERRY FLUFF SALAD AHEAD OF TIME?
Yes, this Strawberry Fluff can easily be made several hours ahead of time. Just store it in an airtight container in the fridge. The salad will stay good for at least 2-3 days. It’s a perfect make-ahead recipe!
Can you use other fruit in Strawberry Fluff?
Absolutely! The best part about these types of salads is that they are very versatile. You can swap in any type of fruit or combination of fruit that you’d like. Berries work the best, but you can use fresh peaches and that works great too. If you will be serving the salad immediately, you can even add some sliced bananas. I love the combination of strawberries and bananas together!
Ingredients in Strawberry Fluff Salad
Cream cheese – Any variety will work. You can use regular cream cheese, or a low-fat or non fat version. Just make sure to soften the cream cheese before adding to the mixture so that it will mix smoothly.
Sugar – A little bit of sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the fluff.
Vanilla – A little bit of vanilla extract adds a delicious flavor to the salad. The higher the quality of the vanilla, the better.
Cool Whip – 8 oz. container of non-dairy whipped topping, regular or non-fat. Can use stabilized whipped cream instead (directions below).
Strawberries – You will need 4 cups of diced strawberries to add to the salad. You can swap this out with raspberries or blueberries if you’d like, or you can create any combination of fruit that you’d like. If I’m serving the fluff immediately, sometimes I add some sliced bananas!

CAN YOU REPLACE THE COOL WHIP?
Cool Whip is the best “whipped topping” to use in this recipe. However, if you can’t find Cool Whip where you live or you prefer not to use it in recipes, you can use stabilized whipped cream instead. If you just use regular whipped cream, the consistency will be too light and the cream will not hold up very well. It’s very simple to make your own stabilized whipped cream and it just takes a few minutes!
HOW DO YOU MAKE STABILIZED WHIPPED CREAM?
If you want to make whipped cream ahead of time, you can, but you have to stabilize it. To make stabilized whipped cream, you will need the following ingredients:
- 4 ounces of cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
Beat the whipping cream just until soft peaks form.
Add in the cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. Whip on high until mixture is smooth.
Store in the refrigerator until ready to use, up to 3 days.
A little tip for making whipped cream faster: use a metal bowl and place the bowl in the freezer for about 30 minutes before you make the whipped cream. This will significantly decrease the amount of time that you will need to beat the whipped cream – the process will go much faster!
HOW TO SOFTEN CREAM CHEESE
You can soften cream cheese by simply letting it sit on the countertop for 2-3 hours, until it comes to room temperature. Using room temperature cream cheese is vital. I don’t know if you are like me but I always forget to take the cream cheese out of the fridge! An easy way to soften the cream cheese is to use the defrost function on your microwave. Place the cream cheese, unwrapped, in a bowl, then select the lowest setting on defrost. Mine usually takes about 45 seconds. That’s it! Then proceed with the recipe.

Have you tried making this with Stevia instead of sugar. If yes how much did you use.
Nicole says
We have not tried it with stevia, sorry. I’d recommend starting out with 1/2 cup and then tasting and working your way up from there
Cadence Cat says
Has anyone tried making it with like any other extract, if so, how did the fluff salad work? :3
Nicole says
Almond extract or amaretto might taste really good but the vanilla really helps to give it a creamier and “lighter” taste that pairs well with the fresh fruit. If desired, you can simply omit it.
