Strawberry Shortcake Oreo Balls are made in just a few minutes with dried strawberries and Golden Oreo cookies! These delicious no-bake treats are made with just 4 ingredients!
What are Strawberry Shortcake Oreo Balls?
Strawberry Shortcake Oreo Balls are a fun twist on a classic favorite. These fun bite-sized treats are made with crushed Golden Oreo cookies and freeze dried strawberries that are mixed with cream cheese. The oreo balls are dipped in a delicious white chocolate coating. So much easier to make than traditional strawberry shortcake and a fun variation on our regular oreo ball recipe.
How do you make Oreo Balls?
Regular Oreo Balls are made with cream cheese, Oreo cookies and some type of chocolate coating. Only a few ingredients for an amazing bite sized, no-bake dessert! All you have to do is crush up the Oreo cookies and mix them with the cream cheese and then shape the mixture into balls. Freeze the balls for about 20 minutes and then dip them in melted chocolate. For this recipe, I chose to use vanilla almond bark because it gives the oreo balls more of a strawberry shortcake flavor, but I’m sure they would be delicious with regular chocolate too!
What chocolate is best for dipping?
When making candy like this I really find that almond bark or Candiquik works so easily. However, you can use chocolate chips or white chocolate chips instead. I find it works best when you add a small amount (about 1/2 tsp) of shortening or coconut oil to the chocolate chips when you melt them in the microwave.
How do you melt chocolate in the microwave?
Melting chocolate in the microwave is easy if you go slowly. Always use a glass or ceramic bowl and chocolate that’s not old. To melt 1 cup of chocolate chips I’d begin with 1 minute in the microwave. After the 1 minute, let chocolate sit for 2-3 minutes. Then, gently stir and see if chocolate begins to melt smooth. If it’s still really solid, add 20 seconds in the microwave, then let it sit again. Often chocolate looks like it’s not melted when it really is, and you don’t know for sure until you gently stir it. If your chocolate melts but it’s too thick to work with, try adding 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil or shortening, then letting it melt and stirring it in.
What are the ingredients in Strawberry Shortcake Oreo Balls?
- Golden Oreo Cookies, finely crushed
- cream cheese, softened
- almond bark (Candi-Quik), melted (I used vanilla almond bark but you could use milk chocolate or semi-sweet instead)
- freeze dried strawberries, finely crushed
How to make Strawberry Shortcake Oreo Balls
MAKE THE OREO BALLS
Crush the Golden Oreo cookies. I used a blender, but you can use a small food processor, or you can place the cookies in a sealed plastic bag and smash them with a meat mallet! I found that the blender worked best when I did half the cookies at a time, rather than trying to crush all 36 at once. Use a fork to stir the mixture up between blends to get the finest consistency.
Mix the crumbs with the cream cheese until well blended.
Crush the freeze dried strawberries. I used a blender to make fine crumbs but you could chop them into small pieces if you want larger pieces of them in your Oreo balls. Add the strawberries to the cookie mixture and mix well.
Use a cookie scoop to measure out about 1.5 TBSP of the cookie mixture and roll each scoop into a ball. Place Oreo balls on a parchment or wax paper lined cookie sheet.
*Freeze the balls for about 20-30 minutes before dipping.
DIP THE OREO BALLS
Melt the candy coating or melting chocolate in the microwave for about 1 minute 20 seconds. Stir gently until smooth, returning to the microwave in 15 second increments, if needed.
Dip each ball in the chocolate and place back on lined pan.
DECORATE THE OREO BALLS
For the drizzle on top: Add a few drops of pink or red food coloring to the leftover melted white chocolate – there should be some left over after dipping all of the balls. Spoon the colored chocolate into a plastic ziplock bag and snip a tiny corner of the bag and drizzle it onto each Oreo ball. Remove cream filling from reserved Oreo cookie.Place cookies in a bag and smash. Sprinkle each Oreo Ball with cookie crumbs.
Once the chocolate coating and drizzle have set (only takes a few minutes), I take a sharp knife and cut off the excess chocolate that has pooled around the bottom of the oreo balls. So don’t worry if your drizzle is all over the pan – you can just cut any excess off and your oreo balls will look amazing!
*Don’t skip this step! The balls need to be chilled before you dip them in the melted chocolate. If they aren’t chilled, you will end up with a lot of crumbs in your melting chocolate and they won’t look quite as pretty! You’re welcome to divide the directions into 2 parts and make the oreo balls the day or night before, then dip them in chocolate the next day.

Oh my goodness! These are so yummy and so pretty too! Perfect for Valentine’s Day!
Linda says
I made these for my grandkids for Valentine’s Day and I can’t wait until they see them. They were super easy to make (and I do love making cake balls) and the addition of the freeze-dried strawberries was awesome. I may just eat them all up before the grands even get to see them. lol

Can’t wait to try this. I want to make some chocolate rasberry but can’t find any freeze dried raspberries do you think I could just put a couple drops of rasberry flavoring in it
Nellie says
Yep, you can definitely add raspberry flavoring- that sounds delicious!
Hilary says
How much freeze fried powder would be needed (I have freeze dried strawberry already powdered)? Thank you
Nellie says
I’m not sure! I would add maybe 1/3 cup and see how that tastes- you can always add more!
Lindsay says
Yum! When you crushed the Oreos did you remove the cream filling?
Nellie says
Nope! Just leave it in there!

Tasted so good and were a hit at a girl baby shower I threw. What is the best way to dip? I used a toothpick but when I pulled it out after, there was a little hole. It was ok because I was covering it with the pretty design on top, but I’m just thinking there has to be a better way.
Nellie says
I just use 2 forks and maneuver them in and out of the chocolate that way. I’ve used fancier tools that are meant for dipping candy in chocolate, but I think the forks work just as well!
Debbie Howell says
These were very simple to make. I found it easier to use my medium size electric chopper to crush cookies. Just did about 8 cookies at the time. Makes a very pretty candy. I liked that it gave variety to my Christmas candy platter.Delicious!
Lisa Renee says
Omgeeeeee! Can you say SCRUMPTIOUS? I had to make two batches.
Nicole says
So glad you liked them!
Brenda says
If you can not find freeze dried strawberries, what can you substitute?
Nicole says
Unfortunately, I do not recommend using anything besides another freeze dried fruit (raspberries, blueberries, etc). You need the berries to be freeze-dried because most of the moisture has been removed so it won’t throw off the consistency of the mix. Using fresh or frozen will definitely not work the same. You can friend freeze dried strawberries at Walmart, food health stores, Amazon, Dollar General, Target, and more. To find them in a store near you go to Google and type in “freeze dried strawberries” and then click on the shopping tab to see which stores carry it.

What about using dry strawberry jello powder in place of freeze dried?
Nellie says
I’ve never tried that, but that’s a great idea! Let me know if you experiment!
Stacey says
Can these be made into cake pops?
Jessica says
I think that sounds like a fun idea Stacey- it should work just fine!!
