Tips For Making Valentines Chex Mix
I think that the strawberry flavored melting chocolates from craft stores like Joann are an amazing addition to this recipe because they taste great, make the recipe that much easier, and have a nice color. It melts easier too!
You can use whatever type of Chex mix cereal you want to use. I used Rice Chex because they’re plain flavored so the strawberry white chocolate flavors really shine through. You can use corn, chocolate, or any other flavor you want though!
What If I Can’t Find Strawberry Cream Pudding Mix?
If you can’t find Strawberry flavor, consider choosing a different variety. Coconut Cream, Banana Cream, Cheesecake, or another pudding mix flavor would taste amazing too!
What Can I Substitute For Strawberry Flavored White Chocolate Melting Discs?
If you can’t find the bags of Strawberry flavored white chocolate melting discs, you can take white chocolate chips and add a little bit of the dry pudding mix to create flavorful chocolate. There won’t be much color added, so if you want the mix to be pink, I recommend using food coloring to get it to the shade that you want.
Strawberry Valentine’s Day Chex Mix Ingredients
-4-6 cups Rice Chex cereal
-1 8-oz bag Strawberry Candy Melts OR
-1 bag of white chocolate baking chips {12 oz} AND
-1 box of Strawberry Creme Jell-O Pudding** {pudding, NOT gelatin!}
-Valentines M&M’s and/or Sprinkles
How To Make Valentines Day Chex Mix
Measure out the Chex cereal into a large bowl. Note: if you’re using the Strawberry Candy Melts, you’ll use 4 cups of cereal. If you’re using the white chocolate chips + pudding mix, you’ll use 6 cups of cereal.
Pour the chocolate into a small glass dish. Add in 1/2 tsp of shortening, if desired, to help the chocolate coat the cereal more easily.
Microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds. Let sit in the microwave for 3 minutes. Remove and gently stir. If once stirred the chocolate looks smooth, it’s done. If not, return to the microwave in 15 second increments, letting it sit for 2-3 minutes each time, until melted and smooth.
If you used White Chocolate Chips + Pudding Mix: Add in 4 TBSP of the strawberry cream pudding into the white chocolate and stir gently until smooth. Add in 2 drops of red food coloring, if desired.
Pour the chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal and then stir gently to coat.
Transfer the cereal mixture to a large piece of wax paper. Sprinkle with M&M’s and Valentine’s colored sprinkles, if desired.
Let cool to set. Break into pieces and then store in an airtight container to save. Candy can be made up to 3-4 days ahead if desired. It saves really well!

How Long Is Homemade Valentine’s Day Chex Mix Good For?
For the best tasting results, I don’t recommend making it more than 4 days in advance. Anything longer than that will could give you stale cereal. Also, remember to keep your Chex mix in an airtight container at room temperature.
Can You Freeze Chex Cereal?
If you make your Valentine’s Day mix and ave leftovers or simply want to make it last as long as possible, you can freeze it in an airtight container for up a few months.

yes i was wondering if you could use the vanilla almond bark instead of the white choc ??. since im allergic to white choc i look for alternatives
Jessica Williams- UDD, Butter with a Side of Bread says
YES! Vanilla almond bark is a fantastic alternative since it tastes good and is usually cheaper! You'd still use 12 oz- so check the package to see how many squares is equal to 1 ounce and go from there!

evegordon says

Nicki Smith says
Mine got thick with the chips not sure why I never have luck with them but it still was yummy just didn't cover all the stuff
Chrissy K says
I discovered using the crockpot to melt chocolate. I put mine on low and it takes like half hour or so but so worth it. It comes out perfectly melted and so easy to coat things.
Fran says
I've made lots of Chex mix, but never with pudding added–I'm looking forward to trying this! I stocked up on the Candy Cane pudding flavor when it was reduced after Christmas, now I'm intrigued by all the Chex mix possibilities of using different pudding flavors. Thank you for sharing!! 🙂 –Fran
Robyn says
I just made it today. It is very yummy. My chocolate didn't get very thin so it didn't cover the chex mix completely like yours. So mine isn't as pretty though. I found the strawberry pudding only at Walmart. What's your trick to not having the chocolate get thick and unusable when adding coloring to it? I've never had good luck with that. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Jessica Williams- UDD, Butter with a Side of Bread says
You can add about 1-2 tsp of shortening to the white chocolate chips and it will help the consistency be slightly thinner and smoother. It's easier to cover the cereal when you use a little shortening. Try it next time- it really does help!

Ive been waiting 2 months to make this recipe! I finally made it and it turned out sooo tasty.. I could not find the strawberry pudding so I used strawberry flavoring that you use to mix in vanilla icing to make strawberry icing. Found it in the store next to the icing, in a little packet! Will definitely be making this again. Thank you for sharing:o)
Amanda Ault says
I couldn't find strawberry pudding, so I used some strawberry Nesquik syrup and it worked just fine! Just an idea in case you can't find the pudding! 🙂 Thanks for sharing it turned out super cute
Jaime Sublett says
i did not use the shortening in the chocolate chips and it was way too thick to spread.
Bettina Groh says
I've been searching for the pudding since January and it finally appeared on the shelves of my Wal-Mart!!
Ashley says
Hi, I just wanted to share my experience with this recipe incase anyone can't find strawberry pudding mix like I couldn't.
I used strawberry jello mix and even with your warnings, it turned out incredible!! In my opinion, the jello mixed with the white chocolate after hardening, was more of a yummy strawberry candy coating! And it was delicious! We are giving it out for Valentine'
Katherine says
Just made this for my son's kindergarten class!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Bettina Groh says
Made it and everyone really loves it… especially the grandchildren! I managed a batch and a half from one package of pudding. my grand daughter really liked the red cookie sugar I sprinkled while the "stuff" was still wet.
Nanners says
my chocolate "seized" up after adding the pudding–I started over without it and it was a big hit-Just not strawberry–y!
It's still a fun, darling little treat!
