A Simple Hummus Recipe
Hummus is always a pretty simple dip recipe, but this one really takes the cake. It’s made with just a few ingredients and steps (the steps are as simple as tossing ingredients into a food processor and blending). Within just a few minutes, you can have this dip ready to serve with your favorite snack food.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s great for any occasion. Hummus makes a great dip to serve at parties as a little appetizer but it also does perfect on weekdays when you just want to lounge on the couch and binge-watch tv. Serve it up for any occasion, and it will always be ready in just a few minutes.
- You can use dried chickpeas if needed. If you use a bag of dried chickpeas, once you re-hydrate them, you will have to add about a cup of water to the recipe.
- It’s versatile. There are so many different flavors of hummus out there and this one would make a great “base recipe” for any of those variations. Add in roasted garlic, caramelized onions, avocado, and more depending on what you like or want. Just adjust to tastes and report back here to tell me about your delicious creations.

What is Tahini?
Tahini is a sesame seed- oil blend that really gives Hummus a distinct flavor. It can be found in the natural foods section of the grocery store by the peanut butter. The drawback is that it’s a bit pricey- a container will cost about $5-$9. You don’t use a whole lot in each batch of hummus though, so I’m storing mine in the fridge for use later on. Tahini can be left out of the recipe, but if you like store-bought hummus, chances are you’ll taste something missing if you opt to leave it out.
How Long Will homemade hummus last?
Your homemade hummus can last up to 4 or 5 days if kept stored in an airtight container in the fridge. This means that you can make it in advance if you plan to serve it at a party or that you have plenty of time to treat yourself throughout the week!
Can I freeze hummus?
Yes! You can freeze homemade or even storebought hummus for that matter. This is super simple and easy to do. Simply place the hummus in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 or 4 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and give it a good stir again before serving. Enjoy!
