What is creamy salsa verde?
Salsa Verde is the sister to red salsa, it is a green salsa made with tomatillo’s and cilantro. This delicious sauce is made velvety thanks to the addition of avocados. The avocados add a lovely rich creaminess and thickness, adding to the fun green color without adding too much extra effort! Salsa made with Tomatillo’s is flavorful and zesty, with an hidden taste of smoky green chile. It is a fun and festive alternative to the typical red salsa, this is sure to be a bit at any family event.
Creamy Salsa Verde Ingredients
-Tomatillo Salsa Verde: You will need 1 cup’s worth. You can use store bought or homemade but I like to use about half of a 16oz store bought jar. It makes this recipe super easy!
-Avocado: Use 1 avocado that has been smashed until creamy. This is the added ingredient to bring this recipe together. Really, any reason to use avocado is good in my book!
-Fresh Cilantro: 1 tablespoon is what I have used for this recipe. You can add more or less than the recipe calls for depending on how much you adore cilantro.
-Lime Juice: Use ½ teaspoon of freshly squeezed lime juice or lime juice concentrate. This acidic juice helps to pull all the wonderful flavors together.
-Coarse Salt: Adding a pinch or two of salt to this salsa recipe will help to bring out the flavors and make it taste so incredible.
Easy step my step on how to make Creamy Salsa Verde
In a medium size bowl, mash your avocado with a fork until nice and creamy. You can leave some small chucks for a little added texture to the salsa.
Next, add in the Tomatillo salsa verde. Mix until combined.
Last, add in the cilantro, lime juice and salt. Stir until well combined. Taste test to ensure it is the right flavor you want, add more salt or lime juice if you feel inclined. Make sure to add a little extra at a time, you don’t want to over use one ingredient and throw the flavor off completely.
Serve immediately with chips. Enjoy!

Is green enchilada sauce the same as salsa verde?
No, these to sauces are not the same. The difference between green enchilada sauce (verde sauce) and salsa verde is that enchilada sauce is cooked, and salsa verde is raw. Although they may look similar they do have a different taste and texture, make sure to look closely at the label before you buy!

We are suckers for good salsa at my house, too. This creamy salsa verde looks really tasty. I like that you added the avocado for the creaminess. Nice touch!

A good friend of mine makes a salsa called “guacamolito” and sells it through our local Whole Foods. It’s my absolute favorite, but there’s not a convenient location near me. I love supporting my friend’s business, but this tastes JUST like her salsa. SO GOOD, and so easy! I could eat the whole bowl in one sitting. Happy that I don’t have to make the trip for my favorite salsa anymore, and I can make my own without paying an arm for one cup of good salsa. (It was worth it, but… you know) Thanks for sharing! I used my food processor to make it even easier (also to get a smoother texture), and I also used the cilantro paste rather than fresh. Two thumbs up!
