Salted Caramel Turtle Fudge
We do not use real turtles in this recipe nor does this fudge resemble the shape of a turtle, the name comes from the turtle candies that have been around for decades. Caramel and chocolate were piled over some pecans and shaped to look like little turtles. Because this recipe features those three main ingredients, the name seemed very fitting. This is a great easy recipe for fudge that does not require all the typical steps fudge usually calls for. Making fudge CAN be simple and easy, give this recipe a try today and see what we mean.
Why you’ll love this Turtle Fudge Recipe:
In case you need more reasons to give this tasty treat a try, here are some reasons to convince you.
- Simple ingredients. You will only need about 8 or 9 ingredients in total for this easy turtle fudge recipe, and they are all fairly easy to find in your home or grocery store. Ingredients like vanilla extract, chocolate chips, condensed milk, etc.
- No candy thermometers are needed! Unlike traditional fudge recipes where we have to boil things and use a candy thermometer, we are simply heating ingredients enough to melt and mix together. This recipe is much more user-friendly!
- Two ways to enjoy. Try this recipe the way it is written, and then try it again with some salted sea salt flakes and notice how indulgent and delicious both variations can be. We love the salted version, but both are perfect for when you want something sweet and chewy.
Carmel Turtle Fudge Ingredients
Chocolate chips– You will need 3 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips to create the rich chocolate layer in this fudge.
Condensed milk– Use 1 14-ounce-sized can of sweetened condensed cream to ensure the fudge is sweet and thick.
Marshmallow cream– Adding in 3.5 ounces of marshmallow creme or marshmallow fluff will help the fudge set up properly.
Vanilla extract– Use 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to help enhance all the amazing flavors in this recipe.
Salt– To make this fudge taste even better, stir in 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Pecans– Add in 2 cups of chopped toasted pecans. Pecans are the nut of choice for all “turtle” recipes.
Caramels– You will need 30 soft caramel candies (like Kraft) to give the perfect turtle treat experience.
Heavy cream– Use 1 tablespoon of heavy cream to get the caramel to be the correct consistency.
Salt flakes– This is optional, but adding in some sea salt flakes will make the caramel salted and help to create a richer new experience.
How to Make Turtle Fudge
Prep
Begin by spraying the inside of a 9×9 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and then line it with parchment paper. The cooking spray will help prevent the parchment paper from sticking to the pan and make for an easy removal.
Chocolate mixture
In a saucepan, over medium-low heat, melt the chocolate chips and sweetened condensed. Melt the chocolate slowly, so it does not burn. Once melted and smooth, stir in the marshmallow cream.
Proceed to spread half of the chocolate mixture over the bottom of the prepared pan. Then press the pecans over the top of the chocolate mixture.
Caramel sauce
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the caramel candies (unwrapped) with the heavy cream for 30 seconds. Stir together until melted and smooth. Then, spoon half of the caramel sauce over the top of the pecans.
Continue to top it off with the remaining half of the chocolate mixture and the remaining pecans, to create multiple layers of chocolate and pecans in this fudge.
Drizzle the top in any remaining caramel you may have. If the caramel is not soft enough to drizzle, reheat in the microwave for another 10 seconds. If desired, sprinkle the top of the fudge with flakey sea salt.
Let cool completely in the refrigerator for 30-60 minutes and then cut into 25 pieces.
Serve and enjoy!
Tasty Recipe Variation
Instead of doing layers of chocolate, nuts, caramel and repeating, you can just add all the chocolate first, sprinkle with pecans and then drizzle with the caramel. It will not have the same fun layered appearance once you slice it, but the same amazing flavor will be there and that’s what matters!
