Most of all, I love how everyone in my family absolutely loves this chicken – it’s a favorite with every single one of my kids!
What is Cheesy Baked Chicken?
Cheesy Baked Chicken Breasts are chicken breasts that are dipped in butter and garlic and then coated in a mixture of bread crumbs, cheese and a little bit of salt and pepper. Put them in the oven to bake and that’s it!
What to serve with Cheesy Baked Chicken Breasts?
I love to serve chicken with sides like Alfredo Potatoes or even Mashed Potatoes. Add some Asparagus Crescent Rolls and a Lemon Caesar Salad and you’ve got a complete meal! Well, almost complete. Don’t forget dessert! Brownie Goody Bars or Cookies and Cream Cookies are both simple and delicious choices.
Ingredients in Cheesy Baked Chicken Breasts
Chicken breasts – You will use 6 skinless, boneless chicken breasts. If the chicken breasts are really large, you may only need 4, and if they are small, you may be able to use 7 or 8. You can also use chicken tenders if you prefer, and can make about 12-18 of them, depending on how much cheesy coating you’d like on each one. Just make sure to cook the tenders for less time (probably about 25-30 minutes).
Butter – Real butter always works best!
Garlic salt – Just 1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt adds flavor to the butter.
Bread crumbs – You can use any type of bread crumb that you’d like. Use a gluten-free variety to keep the dish gluten free if you need to. I usually use regular bread crumbs or Panko bread crumbs for this recipe.
Grated cheddar – Use 1 1/2 cups of grated cheddar. You can use a different type of cheese if you want!
Parmesan – You will only need 1/4 cup of grated parmesan. You can use the kind in the can if you’d like, or you can use fresh Parmesan – either will work fine!
Salt and pepper – Just a teaspoon of salt and 1/8 teaspoon of pepper add a lot of flavor and just the right amount of spice to the chicken.

HOW TO TELL IF CHICKEN IS COOKED IN THE MIDDLE
Sometimes it’s really hard to tell if chicken is done without cutting into it, and you definitely don’t want overcooked or undercooked chicken! Use a meat thermometer to ensure perfectly cooked chicken every time. Chicken needs to reach an internal temperature of 165°.
My all-time favorite meat thermometer is the Thermapen. It’s super fast and incredibly durable. Another great meat thermometer is the ThermoPop which is a more basic version that works just as well!
CAN CHEESY BAKED CHICKEN BREASTS BE REHEATED?
Yes, to reheat the chicken and keep the coating crispy it’s best to use an oven with a wire rack topped baking sheet so that the air can circulate around it. You could also use a microwave for faster results but the skin will not be crisp. Air fryers or other convection style cooking appliances may also work. Just make sure that the chicken is back to a safe consumable temperature before eating.
