Making homemade fruit sorbet is a delightful way to enjoy a chilled treat. For those who love pears, this easy sorbet recipe stands out as a delicious summer dessert that anyone can whip up in no time! With just a few simple ingredients, this sorbet is not only tasty but also a great way to utilize ripe pears.
Simple Fruit Sorbet
If you haven’t tried pear sorbet yet, you are missing out! This fruit is a household favorite in my family, we all really love them. Enjoying them as a frozen dessert is one great way to use those ripe pears up! This recipe uses white grape juice (or apple juice), but you can also use pear juice if you have some on hand. The pear taste is a main reason this is such a fantastic recipe; it is a subtle and delicious flavor.
The simplicity of the ingredients allows the natural flavor of the pears to shine, making every scoop a refreshing experience.

Tips for those who’ve never made Homemade Sorbet
- Be sure to fully blend the sorbet: Make sure to blend the pears and juice until nice and smooth, it makes all the difference. In doing this, you avoid any chunks and creates a creamy sorbet. Using a high-powered blender works best for achieving the right consistency.
- Taste it before you freeze it! Before freezing, give the mixture a taste test. If you like it a bit more sweet, gradually add extra sugar. Feel free to adjust the lemon juice too, for a refreshing zing!
- Fully freeze before enjoying: Spread the pear mixture in a shallow dish for quicker freezing. This allows it to freeze evenly and makes scooping easier too. A minimum of 4 hours is recommended for the best texture. The wait is worth the reward, I promise!

Key Ingredients for Pear Sorbet
Lemon Juice: 4 teaspoons of lemon juice add a nice zing to the mixture. Fresh or packaged lemon juice works well. It also helps the pears to not discolor and acts as a preservative, ensuring the sorbet stays fresh longer.
Pears: Five small pears are essential for this fruit sorbet. Aim for ripe pears! They should be peeled and sliced to create a smooth base.
Juice: For a lovely consistency and flavor, ¾ cup of white grape juice or apple juice will do the trick. This ingredient enhances the sweetness.
Sugar: Adding ⅓ cup of sugar helps to sweeten the sorbet. It balances the natural flavors of the pears.

Preparation Tips for Pear Sorbet
Creating a delicious Pear Sorbet requires a few simple steps. Each one plays a crucial role in achieving a perfect frozen treat!
- Preparing this dessert has 2 parts, which combined take about 4 ½ hours. First you’ll cook the fruit on the stove, then after it’s cooled a bit, you’ll blend and freeze it. The first part takes about 25 minutes, then freezing takes several hours.
- Ripe pears yield better sorbet! Not just in flavor, but preparation is easier as peeling ripe pears is faster.
- A high powered blender helps! It blends the fruit up more finely so you have a smoother, creamier texture to your sorbet.

HOW LONG IS HOMEMADE PEAR SORBET GOOD FOR?
If you store homemade sorbet properly, it will be good for about 1-2 weeks. The perfect amount of time to enjoy it a few times! You want to store it in an airtight container.
It also should be stored in the coldest part of the freezer, preferably not in the door. You do not want the sorbet to melt and refreeze, to prevent ice crystals from forming. Store on a shelf, in the middle section of the freezer for maximum results.

Can you make pear sorbet using canned pears?
Yes, canned pears can be used as a substitute for fresh pears. They should be drained and rinsed to remove excess syrup. This may alter the sorbet’s texture and sweetness, so it’s good to taste and adjust the sugar accordingly.
Could you turn this pear sorbet into a creamy pear ice cream?
Absolutely! To transform the sorbet into ice cream, add heavy cream or a non-dairy alternative. Mixing in the cream while blending the other ingredients will create a rich and creamy texture, elevating the dessert experience.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE SORBET?
You only have to spend about 20-30 minutes actually making the sorbet, but then you do have to allow about 4 hours of freezing time until it is completely frozen. I just make mine a day or two before I need it.
SORBET VS. SHERBET – WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
Are sherbet and sorbet the same thing? No, they are not the same thing. Sorbets are usually dairy-free, mostly made with fruit and ice. In this recipe, you don’t add ice to the fruit, but fruit juice and a little bit of sugar before pureeing and freezing. While sherbet is generally made with some sort of fruit juice and some type of dairy as well.
