INGREDIENTS IN BROWN SUGAR DROP BISCUITS
Flour: The recipe calls for a combination of all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour. You can use gluten-free substitutes if needed.
Baking powder & baking soda: These are the leavening agents in the biscuit recipe. For best results, make sure they aren’t old or expired.
Salt: Just a little bit of salt adds a lot of flavor to the biscuits.
Butter: For best results, use real butter. Make sure the butter is cold and cut into small pieces before adding to the other ingredients.
Apple juice: Most of the liquid in the biscuit dough comes from apple juice. The juice provides a lot of flavor and sweetness to the biscuits and pairs so well with the brown sugar/cinnamon topping.

BROWN SUGAR TOPPING
Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a must for pairing with brown sugar.
Flour: Just a little bit of all-purpose flour makes the topping mixture perfectly crumbly.
Butter: Again, real butter works best. The butter will mix into the topping more readily if it is softened to room temperature.
Brown sugar: Brown sugar is the main ingredient in the topping. For best results, please make sure the brown sugar is soft and fresh.

Tips for making Brown Sugar Drop Biscuits
Making homemade biscuits is very easy. You don’t need an electric mixer or any special tools, especially with drop biscuits! Keep it fast and simple!
Here are a few tips on how to make the best homemade biscuits:
- Do NOT overmix! Just use a mixing bowl and a rubber scraper or spoon. Don’t use any type of an electric mixer as it’s incredibly easy to over-mix the dough. Aim to mix the dough about 15 times and that’s it! I find it usually takes about 15 turns of the rubber scraper to get the ingredients incorporated.
- Cutting the butter into small pieces really makes your life so much easier. I promise! It’s super fast and works really, really well for biscuit recipes.
- Remember that the dough will be STICKY. Sticky dough yields soft, delicate biscuits with amazing texture.
- As with most baked goods, be sure to not over-bake! That’s one quick way to have hard, dry biscuits, blech!

Can you freeze Homemade Biscuits?
Yes, you can freeze homemade biscuits in an airtight container for up to 1 month. I find after that 4-week mark, the texture and flavor of the biscuits suffer. Since these are so simple to make, whip up a fresh batch any time you want to enjoy some hot biscuits!
HOW DO I KEEP BROWN SUGAR DROP BISCUITS FRESH LONGER?
One easy way to keep biscuits fresher longer is to push all the excess air from the bag before it is sealed. Air in the bag will make the bread dry out faster. Also, you can wrap each one individually to keep it nice and fresh.
