Smore’s on a Stick is a delicious twist on Smores. With a marshmallow dipped in chocolate and covered in graham cracker crumbs you have a tasty treat that’s hard to beat. No roasting required.
One of the best parts of camping is getting to enjoy roasted marshmallows and Smores, but unfortunately, we can’t all just pack up and head out to the woods whenever we want. While you can make regular smores at home, making these Smores on a stick is a much less messy experience for the kids, and they look incredible!
Making This Marshmallow On a Stick Recipe
While this is so stupidly simple I can’t believe it’s called a “recipe,” we are going to go ahead and pretend it’s more difficult than it really is. These chocolate covered marshmallows are a simple enough activity that you can do them inside on a rainy day with the kids.
The Smores on a stick also looks impressive enough to have a dozen or so on lollipop sticks and used as snacks served at a party (a woodland or lumberjack themed party would be amazing with these sweet treats!) It’s such a simple marshmallow on a stick recipe, but it really has a lot of potentials.
Can I Use Popsicle Sticks Instead of Toothpicks or Lollipop Sticks?
I’m going to be honest here, I tried to use popsicle sticks thinking it was a great idea. Unfortunately, the sticky insides of the marshmallow met the blunt edge of a popsicle stick and the results were a sticky, messy, smushed marshmallow. For best results stick to the lollipop sticks, kabob skewers, or toothpicks.
Can I Use Candy Melts Instead of Chocolate Chips?
Absolutely! Candy melts may even be an easier option because they were designed to melt at lower temperatures. Although they mostly taste like white chocolate, they can help to bring in cool colors to make these Smores on a Stick fit a color scheme if being used at a party or holiday gathering.
Smores on a Stick Ingredients
-1/2 cup chocolate chips
-1 TBSP shortening
-3 graham crackers, smashed to crumbs
-6-10 large marshmallows
-toothpicks or lollipop sticks
How to Make Smores on a Stick
Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and melt the chocolate in 30 second increments. Add the shortening to thin the chocolate out. Don’t use water EVER!
Once the chocolate is smooth, assemble your “dipping station.” Stick the marshmallows on the stick. Arrange the chocolate, crushed graham crackers close by so that you can easily move the marshmallows from one to the other.
Dip the marshmallows into the chocolate, covering as much as you’d like. I did some half covered, then some completely covered. Dab off any excess chocolate on the bottom and then dip or roll in the cracker crumbs. Allow the marshmallows to set up on a piece of foil or wax paper.
If stored properly, you can expect them to last well and still taste as fresh as when you made them.

How To Store Chocolate Dipped Marshmallows
Put your set marshmallows in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag at room temperature. They can last at least a week this way, but we’ve only ever made it as far as 5 days because they’re so good!
Can You Freeze Chocolate Covered Marshmallows?
Yes you can. To help the chocolate coating to set up faster, you can place your marshmallows on a wax paper lined baking sheet or a plate and freeze for about 10 minutes until the chocolate has set. This will give you a harder chocolate coating than if you were to let them set at room temperature, but it lets you enjoy them much faster!
Can You Put Chocolate Covered Marshmallows in the Fridge?
You can, but you don’t need to. Unless the weather is very hot and the chocolate will melt at room temperature, there is no reason to keep your Smores on a Stick inside of the fridge. They do taste good chilled but are fine when kept at room temp.
