For a decadent and delicious breakfast that almost feels like a dessert, check out this overnight strawberry cream cheese french toast. Topped with a homemade amaretto cream, this french toast is unlike any other.
I love french toast, but I don’t like making it the regular way because by the time I get to sit down to eat, everyone else is usually already done! I have made several other overnight baked recipes that have been delicious but are really sweet. I have also tried a few recipes that end up being a little bit soggy, even after they are baked which I am not a big fan of!
Overnight Strawberry Stuffed French Toast
This recipe has a touch of sweetness with the cream cheese and cream topping (which is the most delicious whipped cream I’ve ever tasted!), but it isn’t too rich or sweet (making it easier to eat more)! I was also very excited to find that the end result was not soggy at all – it bakes perfectly!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s versatile. If you don’t have strawberries, feel free to use a different berry like raspberries, mixed berries, or even blueberries. All of them turn out delicious!
- Perfect for busy mornings. This recipe can be prepared and served up on hectic work days and busy holiday mornings (like Christmas), or it can be a great way to get a jump start on a great weekend.
- It’s filling. You can serve this recipe up as a main dish and include other breakfast favorites like bacon, sausage, or eggs, or you can serve it up on its own.
Overnight Strawberry French Toast Ingredients
For the French toast, you will need:
French bread- You will need 1 loaf of french bread that has been sliced and cut into 1-inch thick slices.
Cream cheese– You will need 8 ounces of softened cream cheese.
Eggs– Use 4 eggs for this recipe.
Milk– Add in 1 cup of milk to help moisten the bread for the perfect consistency.
Sugar– You’ll want to use 1/4 cup of granulated sugar to make the french toast a little sweeter and more caramelized after baking.
Salt– Add in 1/4 teaspoon of salt to help bring out and enhance the flavors in this dish.
Cinnamon– Adding in 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon really helps to make the french toast taste warm and inviting.
For the Amaretto Cream Topping, you will need:
Heavy cream– You will need 1 pint of heavy whipping cream to make the homemade whipped topping for this breakfast.
Sugar– Add in 1/4 cup of granulated sugar for added sweetness.
Flavoring– You will want to use 1 teaspoon of amaretto flavoring for an incredibly rich taste, but you can use almond extract instead, and it will still taste fabulous.
How to Make Overnight Strawberry Cream Cheese French Toast
French toast
Slice the loaf of french bread into 1-inch slices and then spread the softened cream cheese on one side of half of the bread slices. Place them together with an empty bread slice like a sandwich.
Place them all into a greased 9×13 baking dish.
Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix for several minutes.
Pour the egg mixture over the top of the bread and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes before turning the sandwiches over. The bottom slice should now be on top.
Cover the pan with foil and place it in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, bake at 400 degrees F for 25-30 minutes.
Amaretto Cream Topping
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the whipped cream ingredients using an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
Serve your warmed french toast with whipped cream and some strawberries. We like to use sugared strawberries.
Enjoy!

Can you reheat overnight French toast?
Yes, you can reheat large servings in the oven for several minutes until warmed through, or for a single serving, you can place it on a microwave-safe plate, top it with a paper towel, and heat for about 45 seconds to 1 minute.
What’s the best bread to use for French toast?
I do not recommend regular sandwich bread for overnight french toast because it is too soft and will not hold up very well. Great bread choices include a french bread loaf (like we use in the recipe above) or brioche bread. Using challah bread or a baguette will also work.
Why is my French toast soggy?
There are a number of reasons why your french toast can be soggy. Some examples include using too much egg mixture, cooking at too low of heat, or removing the baked french toast from the oven too soon. Remember that the internal temperature should reach at least 165 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer.
