Overnight Strawberry French Toast Ingredients
French bread: You need 1 loaf of french bread that has been sliced and cut into 1-inch-thick slices for the base of this recipe.
Cream cheese: Use one 8-ounce block of softened cream cheese for a tangy and creamy flavor.
Eggs: 4 eggs add fats for richness, and they are don’t hide the other amazing flavors in the dish.
Milk: Add 1 cup of milk to help moisten the bread for the perfect french toast consistency.
Sugar: You’ll want to use ¼ cup of granulated sugar to make the french toast sweet and a bit caramelized after baking.
Salt: Balance all the incredible flavors by using ¼ teaspoon of salt.
Cinnamon: Adding ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon helps the french toast taste warm and inviting.
Amaretto Cream Topping
Heavy cream: You need 1 pint of heavy whipping cream to make the homemade whipped topping for this breakfast dish.

Flavoring: Using 1 teaspoon of amaretto flavoring adds an incredibly rich taste. But you can use almond extract instead, if that’s what you have on hand.
How to make Overnight Strawberry Cream Cheese French Toast
Bread prep
Slice the loaf of french bread into 1-inch-thick pieces and then spread the softened cream cheese on one side of half of the bread slices. Place them together with a bare bread slice like a sandwich.
Place them all into a greased 9×13 baking dish. I used melted butter in the bottom of my pan, but you can use whatever you prefer, non-stick cooking spray will work well as well.
Egg mixture
Next, in a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, salt, and cinnamon until well combined.
Proceed to pour the egg mixture over the top of the bread and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes before turning the sandwiches over. The bottom slice should now be on top, making it so that the bottom and tops are coated in the egg mixture.
Chill & set
After that, cover the baking dish with foil and place it in the fridge overnight.
Bake
In the morning, get the oven preheating to 400 degrees F.
Then pull the french toast out of the refrigerator and place in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Amaretto Cream Topping
In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, sugar, and extract using an electric mixer, until stiff peaks form. This typically takes 5-7 minutes, believe me, patience is worth the results!
Serve the warm french toast with a dollop of fresh whipped cream and some strawberries. Enjoy!

Can you reheat overnight French toast?
Yes, you can reheat large servings in the oven for several minutes until warmed through, or for a single serving, you can place it on a microwave-safe plate, top it with a paper towel, and heat for about 45 seconds to 1 minute.
What’s the best bread to use for French toast?
I do not recommend regular sandwich bread for overnight french toast because it is too soft and will not hold up very well. Great bread choices include a french bread loaf (like we use in the recipe above) or brioche bread. Using challah bread or a baguette will work great as well.
These breads have a sturdy texture that can hold up to the liquid mixture and will not turn too mushy when baked.
Why is my French toast soggy?
There are a number of reasons why your french toast can be soggy. Some examples include using too much egg mixture, cooking at too low of heat, or removing the baked french toast from the oven too soon. Remember that the internal temperature should reach at least 165 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer.
Variations of this French Toast Recipe

- Chocolate Chip French Toast: Add 1 cup of chocolate chips to the bread mixture before baking for a decadent chocolatey treat. Serve with chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
- Pumpkin French Toast: Add ½ cup of canned pumpkin puree and 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to the egg mixture for a fall-inspired breakfast. Serve with maple syrup and whipped cream.
- Apple Cinnamon French Toast: Use thinly sliced apples instead of strawberries and add 1 teaspoon of apple pie spice to the egg mixture. Serve with warm maple syrup and whipped cream.
Can this recipe be adapted for a slow cooker, and if so, how?
Yes, this recipe can be adapted for a slow cooker. Simply layer the bread slices in the slow cooker and pour the liquid mixture over the top. Cook on low for 4-6 hours or until the French toast is fully cooked.
