Air Fryer Apple Fritters
Air Fryer Apple Fritters are made with basic ingredients like flour, sugar, eggs and butter. A can of apple pie filling is mixed into the dough – it couldn’t be any easier to make these fritters! Traditionally, apple fritters are deep-fried in oil, but this version is made in an air fryer. This makes these pastries a little healthier and a lot less messy to make! Once the pastries have been air fried, they are dipped in a simple cinnamon glaze. Apple Fritters taste just like doughnuts…but even better!
Ingredients in Air Fryer Apple Fritters
For the fritter batter:
Eggs – You will need 2 eggs to bind all of the other ingredients together.
Milk – You can use any type of milk to add some liquid to the recipe. 2%, whole milk, skim milk or even a non-dairy alternative will work just fine!
Butter – You will need 2 tablespoons of melted butter. For best results, use real butter!
Flour – 2 cups of all-purpose flour are needed in the fritter dough.
Sugar – Just 2 tablespoons of sugar add a little bit of sweetness to the dough.
Baking powder – 3 teaspoons of baking powder act as the leavening agent in the fritters. For best results, make sure your baking powder isn’t old or expired.
Cinnamon, nutmeg and salt – Just a small amount of each of these spices will add a lot of flavor to the fritters. You may only need a small amount, but each of the spices is crucial so don’t leave any of them out.
Apple pie filling – One can of apple pie filling is needed for the fritters. Make sure to cut each of the apple slices in half before adding to the dough. If you prefer, you can make your own homemade apple pie filing.
For the cinnamon glaze:
Powdered sugar – Powdered sugar serves as the base of the glaze recipe. Creates a smooth texture with a lot of sweetness!
Milk – Just a few tablespoons of milk are needed to create the perfect glaze consistency. You can use any type of milk you have on hand. Even non-dairy alternatives work just fine.
Vanilla extract – The higher the quality of the vanilla, the better.
Cinnamon – Just a little cinnamon makes this glaze perfect for the apple fritters. Cinnamon and apples just go together, right?!

Pour apple pie filling onto a cutting board and cut apple slices in half.
Fold the apple pie filling into the batter.
Line your air fryer with a liner or cut parchment paper to fit the bottom of the basket.
Spoon fritter batter into the air fryer and leave 1 inch between each fritter. (You should be able to fit 3-4 at a time)
Cook at 370° F for 8-10 minutes or until golden and cooked through. Repeat until there’s no batter left.
Mix all of the ingredients for the glaze in a small bowl.
Allow fritters to cool, then dip in the glaze.

Can Apple Fritters be made in advance?
Doughnuts, fritters and other pastries are always better warm and fresh. You can reheat them if you’d like – I actually think the best way to warm them up is in the air fryer! Set the air fryer to 350° and reheat for about 1-2 minutes on each side.
You can make the dough a few hours in advance and keep it in the refrigerator until ready to bake the fritters. Just let the dough sit on the counter for 15-20 minutes after removing from the refrigerator to let it warm up a little bit before “frying” the fritters.
How to deep fry Apple Fritters
If you prefer to fry your Apple Fritters in oil instead of an air fryer, it’s fairly simple to do and the fritters are so yummy that way! You just need to place about 1 1/2-2 inches of oil in the bottom of a heavy skillet. Heat the oil to 375°. Drop the batter in the hot oil and let it cook for about 2 minutes before flipping to the other side. Let it cook for another 2 minutes or until the whole fritter is a deep golden brown. Remove and place on paper towels to absorb the extra grease. Dip in glaze and serve immediately!
Can I make Apple Fritters in the oven?
Apple Fritters are best when air fried or deep fried, but you can bake them as well. The consistency will be a little bit different, but the flavors will still be delicious.
Preheat the oven to 375°. Prepare the dough as instructed and then line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Drop the dough onto the prepared cookie sheet and bake for about 14-16 minutes or until the Apple Fritters are golden brown and cooked all the way through. Dip in glaze and serve.

These have a great flavor, but I was hoping for a fluffy, bread-like texture. They are basically an apple flavored biscuit with glaze.

Sorry they didnt turn out exactly as expected- air fried recipes are always a bit different from their deep fried versions.
