One-Pot Creamy Sausage Spaghetti
This creamy Italian sausage pasta recipe means a lot to me because we use gluten free noodles and our favorite sausage to create a healthier meal that’s perfect for dealing with everyone’s food sensitivities. This recipe is packed with flavor that we can all enjoy. With all of the brownie points this recipe earns, there’s just one more that we really need to mention. It’s all made in one pot. No more cooking sausage over here, boiling pasta over there, and stirring a sauce together at the same time. Everything is done in one large pot so you can keep the dishes to a minimum and the enjoyment to a maximum.
Why You’ll Love This Creamy Pasta Recipe
- It’s made from scratch. While we don’t actually make the noodles and the sausage, we make the pasta sauce from scratch. You can tell when you try that first bite!
- It’s quick. This is a great weeknight meal because of how fast and simple it is to make. The entire dish is made in just one pot and in about 30 minutes.
- It’s family friendly. What young child doesn’t enjoy pasta and sausage? This dish is a great one to use when you want to please adults, children, or even the pickiest of eaters.
Creamy Sausage Pasta Ingredients
Sausage– Use one package of 4 chicken and apple sausages for delicious flavor. If you are not a fan of that sausage flavor, use whatever flavor you love.
Onion– Adding in ½ cup of diced onion will give you a wonderful flavor depth.
Sun-Dried Tomatoes– Use ¼ cup of sun-dried tomatoes that have been diced into small pieces. You can use the dry packaged ones, or the ones found in jars of oil, depending on what you’d prefer.
Garlic– This is another flavoring agent that really makes this dish work, use 1 teaspoon of minced garlic.
Olive Oil– You will need 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil to help cook everything together.
Spaghetti– You will need 12 ounces (one box) of spaghetti noodles. We used Barilla® Gluten Free Spaghetti, but you can use any variety you have on hand or prefer.
Spinach– Adding in 1 cup of fresh spinach will give this dish a nice burst of green color and some great health benefits as well.
Chicken broth- You will need 5 cups of chicken broth to cook the noodles in. This is about one can, plus one 32-ounce carton of broth.
Cream– Use ¼ cup of heavy cream to create a wonderful creamy and delicious sauce.
Cream cheese– You will need 4 ounces of cubed cream cheese to make the sauce thick and rich.
Parmesan cheese– No Alfredo styled sauce is complete without a little parmesan! Use ½ cup of parmesan cheese to achieve that classic taste.
How to make Creamy Sausage Spaghetti
Prep
Start by slicing the sausages into round slices about 1/2-3/4″ thick.
Then, dice the onions, chop the tomatoes, and mince the garlic. Have all the ingredients ready to go so it’s more convenient, as this recipe moves quickly.
Begin Cooking
Next, begin heating the olive oil into a large saucepan over medium heat. Once heated, add in the onions, tomatoes, garlic, and sausage to the heated pan of oil. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the onions are soft.
Then, add in the spinach leaves, pasta, and chicken broth. Increase the heat to high and stir often, breaking up the pasta as you go to prevent sticking.
Bring the broth to a boil and then decrease the heat to medium. Set a timer for 9 minutes, continue to cook, while stirring often. Most of the broth should be absorbed by the pasta noodles.
Create Sauce
Once the 9 minutes is up, remove the pan from the heat and immediately stir in the heavy cream and cubed cream cheese. Stir to incorporate until the sauce is smooth.
Top with parmesan cheese and some fresh basil if desired. Serve and enjoy!

How long is creamy sausage pasta good for?
This pasta is best served the night it is made, but you can keep the leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Just reheat again before serving.
How do I reheat creamy pasta?
We like to reheat multiple servings in a pot on the stove over medium low heat. If needed, you can add a splash of heavy cream, broth, or even water to help rehydrate the pasta. If you are only reheating one serving, microwaving it for 1-2 minutes will be a quicker method.
What to serve with one pot pasta?
This dish is wonderful and if you’d like some simple side dishes to pair along side it, you really can’t go wrong with some salad and garlic bread. Simple sides for a simple pasta dish!
