Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread is a favorite side dish – you can’t go wrong with bread, garlic, butter and cheese! It only takes a few minutes to make which is always a bonus! For years, I just made garlic bread with butter and garlic salt. Although I still really like a basic garlic bread, there is just something about adding cheese that takes garlic bread to a whole other level.
I think that one of the things that takes this recipe to a whole other level is the addition of cream cheese along with the mozzarella – it adds such an amazing flavor to the bread.
What to serve with garlic bread
Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread is a delicious side for any meal – we love to pair it with lasagna or spaghetti! Basically any type of pasta seems to go well with garlic bread. Add a salad and you have a fabulous meal! I also love to eat garlic bread with soup – it pairs really well with our Zuppa Toscana recipe.
Ingredients in Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread
Italian bread – You will need an entire loaf of Italian or French bread. This can generally be found fresh at any grocery store – make sure to use it within about a day of purchasing so it doesn’t get stale. You can also use homemade French bread if you prefer!
Cream cheese – Any variety of cream cheese works (regular, low-fat, non-fat), but just make sure it is completely softened before using.
Butter – You’ll need an entire stick of butter, just make sure it is completely softened.
Mozzarella – Shredded mozzarella works perfectly, but you can use an Italian blend if you prefer.
Garlic salt, garlic powder, dried parsley – Add the perfect amount of flavor and seasoning to the garlic bread.
How to make the best garlic bread
In a medium sized bowl, blend the cream cheese and butter together with an electric mixer. Beat for about 2-3 minutes, until well blended.
Stir in the mozzarella cheese. Add the garlic salt, garlic powder and parsley and mix well.
Cut the loaf of bread in half horizontally and spread the cheese mixture on both halves. Put the halves back together and cut into slices.
Place slices on a cookie sheet and broil for about 2-3 minutes. (Don’t go too far from your oven – I’m notorious for forgetting I have bread under the broiler and it can burn really fast if you’re not paying attention!)

What kind of cream cheese is used to make garlic bread recipe?
All types of cream cheese work well in this recipe! I have tried regular cream cheese, the reduced fat cream cheese and even fat free cream cheese and they all turn out wonderfully. The consistency will be slightly different, depending on what type of cream cheese you use but all varieties will work well.
How do you soften cream cheese?
Cream cheese is easy to soften – you can set it out at room temperature or soften it more quickly in the microwave.
-To soften at room temperature more quickly, just set the cream cheese on a plate and cut into smaller pieces. The cream cheese should reach room temperature in about 15-20 minutes with this method.
-To soften the cream cheese in the microwave, remove the foil packaging and set the cream cheese in a small bowl or on a plate. Microwave for about 10-15 seconds. If the cream cheese is still cold and hard, continue to microwave for about 5 seconds at a time until the cream cheese is soft throughout. Just make sure not to microwave it too long or it will start to melt!

I plan to make this tonight to go with spaghetti! This looks so good! I normally just soften butter and add garlic powder, Italian herb seasoning, a bit of salt, pepper and powdered parmesan. Then spread it on and broil in my toaster oven. And dont get me wrong, it’s tasty, but I think my family will go crazy over this recipe! It will be a fun change! My youngest, she is 10, would only eat garlic toast for dinner and skip the spaghetti and salad if I’d let her!! No such luck! Anyway, I love the addition of cream cheese, such a smart idea!
