Caramel Apple Fluff made in minutes with only 6 ingredients. Simple fluff recipe that tastes like caramel apples!
Fluff dessert salads are a favorite of mine because they are so easy to make and everyone loves them! They are also extremely versatile – they can be served as a side dish, but they are sweet enough to be dessert. Fluff recipes usually only require a few ingredients and come together in just a few minutes.
CARAMEL APPLE FLUFF
Caramel Apple Fluff is a dessert salad that is made with pudding, fruit and whipped topping. Add in some mini marshmallows and roasted peanuts for the perfect side dish or dessert. We love this recipe year round, but it is definitely a favorite in the fall. It’s the perfect way to have a perfectly good reason to serve caramel apples as a side dish during dinner!

INGREDIENTS IN CARAMEL APPLE FLUFF
Butterscotch pudding mix – You will need a small box of instant butterscotch pudding mix. This provides the “caramel” flavor to the recipe.
Pineapple tidbits – The recipe calls for an 8 ounce can of pineapple tidbits, with the juice. You can use crushed pineapple as a substitute if preferred.
Apples – Two cups of chopped apples are needed for the recipe. Granny Smith apples work best because they are so tart, but you can use any type of crisp apple. Honeycrisp and Fuji apples work well too. Or even a combination of a couple of different varieties.
Miniature marshmallows – The half cup of miniature marshmallows adds a little bit of sweetness and texture to the recipe, but you can leave them out if you don’t want the extra sweetness.
Peanuts – You will need 1/2 cup of dry, roasted peanuts. Chop them up a little bit so that the pieces are a little bit smaller. If you don’t like peanuts, walnuts work well too!
Cool Whip – The recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of whipped topping. This ends up being slightly less than a full eight ounce container. I usually just add it all in. Or put most of the container in and eat the spoonfuls that are left. Make sure it is thawed before adding to the other ingredients.
HOW TO MAKE CARAMEL APPLE FLUFF
In a large mixing bowl, stir together the pudding mix and pineapple tidbits (with the juice) until completely blended with no lumps remaining in the pudding mix.
To the bowl, add the marshmallows, chopped apples, and peanuts.
Fold in the whipped topping until evenly mixed.
Refrigerate until ready to serve. The salad can be made up to 24 hours in advance. If you are going to be waiting to serve the salad for more than one day, just wait to add the apples until right before serving so that they will stay fresh and crunchy. The other ingredients will stay good for up to about 3 days in the refrigerator.
Serve topped with additional whipped topping and nuts, if desired.

CAN I MAKE THIS CARAMEL APPLE FLUFF AHEAD OF TIME?
Yes, this caramel apple dessert salad can be made ahead of time. It’s best if it’s served within 24 hours. Just store it in an airtight container in the fridge. If you aren’t going to eat it within a day, then wait to add the apples so they will be fresh and crunchy. It’s a perfect make-ahead recipe!
CAN YOU REPLACE THE COOL WHIP?
Cool Whip is the best “whipped topping” to use in this recipe. However, if you can’t find Cool Whip where you live or you prefer not to use it in recipes, you can use stabilized whipped cream instead. If you just use regular whipped cream, the consistency will be too light and the cream will not hold up very well. It’s very simple to make your own stabilized whipped cream and it just takes a few minutes!
HOW DO YOU MAKE STABILIZED WHIPPED CREAM?
If you want to make whipped cream ahead of time, you can, but you have to stabilize it. To make stabilized whipped cream, you will need the following ingredients:
- 4 ounces of cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
Beat the whipping cream just until soft peaks form.
Add in the cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. Whip on high until mixture is smooth.
Store in the refrigerator until ready to use, up to 3 days.
A little tip for making whipped cream faster: use a metal bowl and place the bowl in the freezer for about 30 minutes before you make the whipped cream. This will significantly decrease the amount of time that you will need to beat the whipped cream – the process will go much faster!
