What is caramel apple crisp?
It’s a fun and tasty twist on the more traditional apple crisp dessert we already know and love. With a few caramel bits in every bite, you’ll feel like the only thing missing is a comfy sweater and falling leaves outside. Everything is better with caramel added to it, and this dessert is no exception! Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you are feeling extra indulgent, but either way, you will love this decadent dessert!
Ingredients for Caramel Apple Crumble
-Oats: We need 3 cups of old-fashioned oats for the crisp topping. Other oats like quick-cook could be used but they won’t be “as crisp” when cooked as they’ll be a softer texture when finished.
-Flour: We need 2 cups of all-purpose flour for helping to get the juicy apples to thicken as they cook otherwise our dish might turn out soupy.
-Brown sugar: We need a sweetness added 1 ½ cups of packed brown sugar is perfect because it adds a nice depth of flavor as well.
-Cinnamon: To spice up our apple crisp we want 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
-Butter: We need 1 cup of sliced cold butter, this is two sticks.
-Apples: We want to use 6 thinly sliced and peeled apples so that there is plenty for our dish. Baking apples work best.
-Caramel bits: To give us that caramel flavor in every bite we need an 11 ounce package of Kraft Caramel Bits. You can find these in grocery stores near the chocolate chips.
-Apple juice: You will need 1 cup of apple juice for this recipe and it will be divided throughout the steps.

What are the best apples for apple crisp?
Baking apples are preferred because they hold the best flavors and textures after being baked. Examples of apples that would do well include (but are not limited to) Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Braeburn, or even Jonagold. As some apples are more tart than others you may find that you prefer sweeter varieties and are welcomed to do so. You can even mix and match to create a unique flavor as well.
How to reheat apple crisp
If you find yourself with cold leftovers the next day, feel free to warm them up in the oven for a “fresh from oven” warmth and taste. To do this simply place the baking dish in the oven and cook at 350 degrees F for about 15 minutes. If you have a glass baking dish or one that shouldn’t go from cold to hot (fridge to oven) then allow it some time to warm on the counter before baking to avoid such temperature extremes.
