Tips for making the best Banana Milkshakes!
Here are a few helpful tips to achieve the most amazing and delicious banana milkshake ever!
- Depending on how thick you like your milkshakes, you can use more or less milk. If you want it on the thinner side you can add a little extra milk, adding 1/4 cup at a time is the best option to achieve your perfect consistency. For a more thick shake add just 1/4 cup and blend to see if that is your desired consistency.
- For a nice sweet flavor be sure to use nice and ripe speckled bananas for your milkshake. This is a great recipe to use those browning bananas on your counter that no one is going to eat. They still have life left in them and make for a perfect milkshake dessert.
- Steer clear of adding ice to your milkshake, it will water it down and reduce the amount of amazing flavor. If you want a thicker shake, consider freezing the bananas before you blend them, this helps create a lovely consistency.
- Serve immediately after making it before it melts. This milkshake is meant to be made and enjoyed immediately!
Banana Milkshake Ingredients
Ice cream: You will need 1 ½ cups of vanilla ice cream per batch. You can use frozen yogurt or a dairy free ice cream if you want a healthier option. Cashew, Almond, or Coconut milk based ice creams would taste incredible.
Milk: To help thin down the milkshakes so they are drinkable you will want about ½ cup of milk (regular or non-dairy). You can add more or less depending on how thick you want your milkshake.
Vanilla extract: Adding ½ a teaspoon of vanilla extract into the mix will really help to enhance the flavors and make it taste wonderful.
Bananas: You will want about 2 medium sized bananas or 1 large one. The riper the bananas are the sweeter they are.
Optional Toppings: If desired, you can top off your milkshake with some fun toppings like hot fudge, maraschino cherries, whipped cream, or even wafer sticks! The sky is the limit here so add anything you think will be fun and delicious.

Can I add more CHOCOLATE?
To turn our regular banana milkshake into one packed with chocolatey goodness, simply switch out the requested vanilla ice cream and use a chocolate flavored ice cream instead. Yes, it is that simple.
Can I add more fruit?
Absolutely! Bananas go great with a wide variety of fruit and fruit is packed with nutrients, so why not? To add in more fruit I recommend using already frozen fruit (or fruit you froze yourself). This will also thicken the drink so adding more milk may be needed to adjust to your desired thickness. Good fruit options include strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and even pineapple.
How can I make a thicker milkshake?
Using frozen fruits helps to thicken your milkshake without watering it down like it would if you added plain ice. You can also use frozen ripe bananas because they thicken the drink wonderfully. I buy a big bunch of bananas, then wait until they are very ripe and freeze them in bags.
Can I double or triple the recipe?
Yes, depending on the size of your blender you should be able to double or even triple this recipe without fail. Simply measure and blend as per normal. If your blender can’t fit everything, it is okay to work in batches.
