What Are Sweet Potato Fries?
Sweet Potato Fries are a spin on the classic french fry using the classic Sweet Potato rather than a Russet Potato.
They are typically sweeter than french fries but are also salty and delicious with other seasonings added to them. You can eat them as a side dish, a snack, or bake them to make into a meal by adding other toppings to them like ground beef or chicken, cheese, beans, guacamole, or sour cream.
Baked Sweet Potato Fries Ingredients
-Sweet Potatoes: 3 Medium sized sweet potatoes will yield a large amount of cut fries and should be perfect for a family to enjoy.
-Corn Starch: We can make our french fries extra crispy with a tablespoon of cornstarch (it’s like a secret trick).
-Olive Oil: A healthy oil to coat our fries in. We will need 1/2 cup to make sure that all the fries get evenly coated.
-Sea Salt: Sea salt is a healthy and less potent tasting option for adding the salt taste while giving you some added health benefits. We’re going to use 1 teaspoon worth.
-Pepper: A teaspoon of ground black pepper, freshly ground or pre-bought that way will add a nice zest to round out the flavors.
-Cayenne: Just a 1/2 teaspoon measure of cayenne powder will give us a little spice (but not too much) as well as adding a little color to the baked fries.
-Cinnamon: Sweet potatoes and cinnamon always go great together. With a teaspoon of ground cinnamon, we can add an earthy, nutty spice that rounds out all of the flavors well.

How do you slice Sweet Potatoes into Fries?
First, wash your sweet potato and then place it on a cutting board. Begin by cutting off the ends of the potato.
Next, cut the potato right down the middle, and take each half and stand it up vertically. While it is standing, cut from the top of the potato down cutting it into small strips- depending on how thin or thick you would like your fries to be.
Lay the slices down and then slice them lengthwise into the shape of a fry. Try to stick to 1\4″ wide if possible.
Do you need to peel your Sweet Potato before making into fries?
You can do it either way. Typically Sweet Potato Fries are best made with the skin on. This gives them a better flavor and a crispier texture. That said, you can certainly peel them if you prefer!
How to do you reheat leftover fries?
You can reheat fries on your stove. Place the fries on a heavy skillet over medium-low heat until heated through. This method will help them reheat and stay crispy at the same time.
You can also reheat them in your oven. Bake them at about 450 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Spread your fries over the pan and sprinkle with more seasonings if desired. Bake for about 2-3 minutes.
What can you serve with Sweet Potato Fries?
When I think of fries I typically think of the summer time- but you can eat them all year long. While they are perfect for a BBQ or picnic along side foods like hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon and baked beans there are other main dishes that they would be delicious with as well.
They would perfect with a veggie burger, sloppy joes, baked chicken, chili or taco soup.
How long do homemade fries stay good in the fridge for?
You will want to consume all leftover fries within 2-3 days. Store them in an airtight container in your fridge.
