Homemade Avocado Ranch Dressing is made with real avocado, Greek yogurt and tons of fresh herbs. This healthier avocado ranch dressing is delicious, and has only 70 calories per serving!
We love ranch. Ranch dressing is perfect for dressing salads and dipping vegetables or crackers. It is wonderful in wraps and on sandwiches as well. I love Hidden Valley as much as anyone, but if you’ve ever made a homemade ranch dressing, it’s hard to go back to the kind in the bottle. Especially if you add avocado! Homemade ranch dressing tastes so fresh and has so much flavor! And it only takes about 10 minutes of prep to make this Greek yogurt ranch dip that is better for you and tastes amazing too…so there are no excuses!
AVOCADO RANCH DRESSING
Avocado Ranch dressing is made with a fresh avocado, Greek yogurt, avocado oil mayo and olive oil as the base. Add lemon juice, honey and a variety of fresh spices to give the dressing the most incredible flavor and then thin it out with a little bit of milk to get it to the desired consistency. This homemade ranch dressing can be made up to 3 days in advance as long as it is kept refrigerated. Drizzle the dressing over a salad, as a dip for fresh veggies or crackers, or as a spread for wraps and sandwiches.
INGREDIENTS IN AVOCADO RANCH DRESSING
Avocado – You will want to use a large avocado that will yield about 1 cup if you were to measure the flesh after it has been removed and diced. If you were to weigh it whole, it should weigh around 320 grams. You can use 2 smaller avocados if that is what you can find available and ripe. Make sure to use a ripe avocado, otherwise the dip will not be as creamy.
Greek Yogurt – You can use full fat or reduced fat plain Greek yogurt for this recipe. Fat free yogurt will taste a bit tangier, while full fat yogurt will produce a creamier dressing.
Avocado Oil Mayo – I like avocado oil mayo because it contains healthier fats than some of the store-bought alternatives, but feel free to use whatever mayo you keep on hand.
Olive Oil – Avocado oil makes a great alternative to olive oil in this recipe.
Lemon Juice – Fresh lemon juice is always more flavorful but using a high-quality store-bought lemon juice also works well. Lime juice can also be used for a tangy twist, giving the dip a different flavor.
Worcestershire Sauce – Worcestershire sauce adds a little sweetness and some umami flavor to the dip. Coconut aminos will work as a substitute.
Honey – A very small amount of honey is used. Feel free to use a touch of maple syrup or regular sugar if you do not have honey on hand.
Pepper – A little bit of ground black pepper will add to the flavor of the dressing.
Sea Salt – If using regular table salt instead of sea salt, adjust to taste (table salt tends to be a little more salty).
Parsley – You will want to use Italian or flat leaf parsley in this recipe. If using lime juice instead of lemon juice, try substituting the parsley with cilantro for a fun variation.
Chives – If you can’t find fresh chives, green onions will work okay as a substitute. They tend to be less sweet, tougher and have a stronger flavor compared to chives. If using green onions, select the smallest and most tender green onions you can find and chop them up very well before adding them to the recipe instead of just slicing them.
Dill – While I would encourage you to use all fresh herbs in this recipe if possible because it will make it so much more flavorful, you could substitute 1 tsp of dried dill weed in place of the fresh dill if needed.
Milk – Any type of milk can be used since the milk’s purpose is to thin the consistency. You could also use a plain milk alternative, just note that it will not be nearly as creamy as something like whole milk. Be sure to select a milk alternative with a very neutral flavor.
HOW TO MAKE AVOCADO RANCH DRESSING
Halve the avocado, remove the pit and use a spoon to scrape out the flesh into a food processor. Add the Greek yogurt and puree until smooth, scraping sides with a rubber spatula if needed.
Add the mayo, olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, honey, black pepper and salt to the food processor and process until smooth and everything is well incorporated, scraping the sides as needed.
Chop the chives, dill and parsley. Add the herbs to the food processor and process to incorporate (you do not need to fully puree them).
Check the consistency and then add the milk. Add about ¼ cup if you want to use this avocado ranch as a dip or ½ cup to use it as a dressing. The size and ripeness of the avocado may change the consistency slightly so adjust the milk as needed to achieve desired consistency.
Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
