WHAT IS A DUMP CAKE?
A dump cake is the term given to a cake that is assembled and baked in the same dish. This cake is a dump cake because you “almost literally” dump ingredients into a baking dish and bake it. It can also be considered a type of cobbler as well.
There is not a clear determination of how the first dump cake was created, but we can say it was somewhere around 1980 that there was a first reference to it. It all started with crushed pineapple, cherry pie filling and a box of yellow cake mix. Duncan Hines published a recipe in a holiday baking catalogue, and the rest is history! We have all been enjoying these sensational cakes ever since!

INGREDIENTS IN STRAWBERRY CREAM CHEESE DUMP CAKE
White cake mix – The white cake mix pairs perfectly with the strawberry pie filling, but you could use yellow cake mix or even chocolate cake mix if you want to change up the flavors a little bit. Even lemon would be fantastic!
Butter – You will need 1 stick of butter to melt and mix with the cake mix to sprinkle over the top of the other ingredients.
Strawberry pie filling – You will need 2 cans of strawberry pie filling, or 5-6 cups of homemade pie filling.
Whipped cream cheese – Whipped cream cheese works better in this cake, but if you only have regular cream cheese, you can whip it up for a couple of minutes with an electric mixer.

CAN I USE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF BOXED CAKE MIX AND FRUIT?
Absolutely! You can use a lemon-flavored cake mix for a nice spring flavor combination, but you can use any cake mix that you think would pair nicely with the taste of your chosen fruit filling. Lemon cake with blueberry would be tasty, or a yellow cake mix with peach filling too would be amazing. If you are a cherry fan, a chocolate cake mix with cherry pie filling would be absolutely sensational.
HOW LONG IS STRAWBERRY DUMP CAKE GOOD FOR?
This cake can be kept stored in a tightly sealed container for up to 3-4 days at room temperature, but you can also store it in the fridge if desired.
CAN I REHEAT STRAWBERRY DUMP CAKE?
Yes, this cake can be reheated if you find that you enjoy it best when warm and gooey. Go ahead and place a serving-sized portion on a plate and microwave it for about 20-30 seconds until warmed through. Larger portions can be reheated in a baking dish in the oven for a few minutes.

It would be helpful if you showed TWO cans of pie filling in the photos. Here I was at the store buying the stuff and not wanting to scroll through hundreds of lines of narrative to get down the bottom of the screen to read the actual recipe list. The beginning of the post says “four ingredients” and I buy all 4 things shown in the picture and think I’m good to go. Then I try to make it and find out that you need 5 things total. Unfortunately, I live in a remote location and couldn’t just run to a nearby store and grab another can.
I realize putting 2 cans in the photo might “ruin your aesthetic” but seriously do people a favor and change the pictures on your post – maybe it will save the next person from making the same mistake.
