Lucky Charms Leprechaun Snack Mix is a fun twist on a classic perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! Lucky Charms cereal, coconut, almonds & M&M’s combine in a fun & festive sweet snack mix.
Lucky Charms Snack Mix is a gooey, fun recipe that takes no time at all and makes quite a bit- which is good since everyone devours it. It’s perfect for impromptu get togethers, parties, and little treats for kids.
What is Lucky Charms Snack Mix
We took our family favorite Lucky charms cereal and made it into a gooey sweet concoction with nuts, coconut, and chocolate candies together in one bowl. It’s quick and easy to whip up a batch for a festive St. Patrick’s Day!
Why Use Lucky Charms?
I used Lucky Charms cereal in this snack mix so that I could make a festive St. Patrick’s Day treat for my kids. The cute rainbows and shamrocks are perfect for March 17th! But I wasn’t anticipating how amazing the little marshmallows would taste, combined with the sweet syrup. It hardens just enough once it cooks for 3 minutes, so you can have individual pieces that don’t make a sticky mess, yet they’re the perfect chewy, gooey texture that’s so good. It’s addicting, I’m warning you!
Lucky Charms Leprechaun Snack Mix Ingredients
-Chex Cereal: With 3 cups each of Corn Chex and Rice Chex we can get a more diverse appearance and flavor in the main component of this snack mix.
-Golden Grahams: Adding another 3 cups of cereal we can get an added honey graham flavor that pairs great with everything else.
-Shredded Coconut: We want two cups of sweetened shredded coconut to help add that “freshly fallen snow” look that’s perfect for the holidays.
-Nuts: We need 1 1/2 cups of nuts, a mixed variety is good, but I used 1/2 cup each of salted cashews, slivered almonds & sliced almonds.
-Butter: We need 3/4 cup butter (one and a half sticks) to help get the gooey richness we want with this unique holiday snack mix.
-Sugar: We need 1 cup of granulated sugar to help boost the sweetness in this treat.
-Corn Syrup: Adding sweetness and a little thickening agent to help bond the cereal and candies together is one cup of corn syrup.
-Salt: We only need 1/4 teaspoon of salt to help us enhance the flavors and add contrast to the other flavors.
-M&Ms: Using a bag of holiday M&Ms we can get red and green colors that are perfect for Christmas!
How to make Lucky Charms Leprechaun Snack Mix
In a large bowl, combine the cereal, nuts, and coconut.
Heat your butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt in a medium sized saucepan over medium heat. Once it begins to boil, set a timer for 3 minutes and allow to boil for 3 minutes, stirring often.
Once it’s finished, remove from heat and pour over the cereal mixture. Stir well so that everything is coated.
Let sit for 5 minutes.
Add in the M&M’s and stir once more to distribute.
Keep stored in an airtight container. Enjoy!
Can I Make Lucky Charms Snack Mix ahead of time?
This gooey chex mix is best enjoyed within about 10 days, when stored properly in an airtight container. If you’re planning to give it as a gift, I usually make the recipe & transfer portions into cute holiday bags. I then plan to drop them off to neighbors within a day or two.

Is this St. Patrick’s Day Snack mix gluten free?
The Rice Chex and Corn Chex cereals should both be gluten free, but you’ll have to double check the graham cereal as most varieties of that do contain gluten. You could omit it and just use more of the Chex cereals as an easy adaptation though!
How long is Lucky Charms Leprechaun Snack Mix good for?
This Chex mix is actually good for up to 10 days if kept stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
How to Package Snack Mix for Gifts
Since this sweet chex mix is so pretty, I recommend packaging it in clear holiday cellophane bags so that everyone can see the pretty treats inside. It’s a pretty classic treat, so it’s also fun when people recognize what it is and get excited! The bags come with silver or gold twist ties that allow you to close the bags well, so the treat stays fresh. I put about 1.5 cups of this mix in each of these bags, so you can package 6 bags from 1 batch.
Can I freeze gooey snack mix?
You could, but you really don’t need to. This Chex mix is so good when fresh that there may be nothing left to store for longer term storage.
