OK, there are a few more steps, but really, it is so easy! I love pretzels and chocolate together too, the sweet chocolate and salty pretzel is a great combination. I also include tips for melting chocolate and the BEST tool to use. Give them a try today!

How do you melt chocolate in the microwave?
Melting chocolate in the microwave is easy if you go slowly. Always use a glass or ceramic bowl and chocolate that is not old, that is an important key component. To melt 1 cup of chocolate chips I would begin with 1 minute in the microwave. After the 1 minute, let chocolate sit for 2-3 minutes. Then, gently stir and see if chocolate begins to melt smooth. If it is still really solid, add 20 seconds in the microwave, then let it sit again. Often chocolate looks like it is not melted when it really is, and you do not know for sure until you gently stir it. If your chocolate melts but it is too thick to work with, try adding 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil or shortening, then letting it melt and stirring it in.
Pumpkin Pretzels Ingredients
Pretzels: You will need a bag of mini pretzels to create these cute Halloween treats.
Chocolate: For the coating you need ¾ cup of white chocolate chips or orange candy melts.
Coconut oil: If you need to thin out the chocolate, using ½ tsp coconut oil (or shortening) could help greatly.
Food coloring: To make the chocolate coating pumpkin color, use orange food coloring to obtain the desired shade.
Green candy: For the stem of the pumpkin, grab a bag of green chocolate candies.
How to make Halloween Chocolate Covered Pumpkin Pretzels
Prep
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Melt chocolate
Begin by placing the white chocolate chips in a glass bowl along with coconut oil and microwave on high for 1 minute. Let the chocolate sit in the microwave for an additional 1 minute, then stir gently, and return to the microwave for 15 seconds, if needed.
*If using candy melts, omit the use of the coconut oil, it will not be necessary.
Next, add the orange food coloring to chocolate and stir gently to combine well.
Assemble
Proceed to dip each pretzel into the bowl of chocolate, gently tapping the edge of the bowl to release excess chocolate. This process is so much easier when you use a dipping tool! Then lay each of the covered pretzels down on the prepared baking sheet. Next, place 1 green chocolate candy into the top indent of the pretzel on its side, so it is standing up and looks like the stem of the pumpkin. Let cool for about 30-60 minutes or until solid.
Repeat the process until you have the desired amount of pumpkin pretzels, re-heating up the chocolate as necessary. Store in an airtight container to save.

Thanks for this easy and cute idea! I make coated pretzels at Christmas and use white almond bark and sprinkle with red and green sugars. I could do these the same way except color the white bark orange! I use tongs to dip my pretzels, throw some in the bowl stir them around to coat and use the tongs to pick up and shake excess off. Then sprinkle with sugar.
Linda W

Hi Kathryn- I stopped by your blog- super fun! I left a link- thank you!

Linda- great idea with the sprinkles! You could even leave the bark white and color with orange and black sprinkles! I have to admit though- the M&M's make them super tasty…

Would be even better with pumpkin pie spice in the chocolate! YUM!
You could also use the orange candy melts they sell at most crafts stores and even in Walmart instead of adding the additional food colour. I love this idea, especially the little M&M stem, I think I will DEFINITELY be making some soon, especially if I go to the store tomorrow! Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

What kind of food coloring is that?
Anonymous says
I used about 1/8th tsp of Wilton's gel colors
Or you could use green tic tacs instead of the m&ms.
Utah Deal Diva says
It's the Wilton's Gel colors. I bought it as part of an 8-pack of basic colors at Walmart for around $7. It's super nice not having to make the orange or purple type of colors on your own- mine never turned out right!

The gel doesn't make the chocolate seize? I thought you could only use candy colors? I know Americolors makes a Flo-coat to use with their gel colors so the chocolate won't seize. Great idea, I can't wait to try it!

I just made these with my daughter, for her girl scout troop….Well, that's what we were originally going to do with them. I doubt these will make it out of the house! We used white chocolate chips. Soooo cute!!! and sooooo easy! Will definitely be trying out the Chex mix, too!
