Homemade Cinnamon donuts
They’re a made from scratch cinnamon vanilla donut base that is baked, not fried (slightly healthier that way). Packed with fall flavors and topped with colorful icing and candies every donut screams Halloween. A perfect sweet for any of the boys and ghouls.
Halloween Donut Ingredients
For the donuts, you will need:
-Eggs: You will need 3 eggs to help get a good consistency and binding out of every donut.
-Sugar: Adding 1 cup of sugar will make the donuts nice and sweet.
-Milk: Use ⅔ cups of milk to help moisten the batter.
-Oil: Adding in ⅔ cups of vegetable oil will make the donuts have a richer taste and texture thanks to the added fats. You can replace half the oil with applesauce if you’d prefer!
-Flour: Use 2 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour for the base of this donut mixture.
-Baking powder: You will need 2 teaspoons of baking powder to help the donuts puff up nicely as they bake.
-Vanilla: Enhance the flavors with 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. High-quality vanilla will have a stronger flavor but use what you have on hand.
-Cinnamon: To give these donuts a warmth of flavor stir in 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
-Salt: This is a natural flavor enhancer, so adding in 1/4 teaspoon of salt will help the donuts to taste even better!
For the donut icing, you will need:
-Powdered sugar: You will need 1 cup of powdered sugar to make the icing smooth and sweet.
-Water: 3 tablespoons of water will help to get the icing to the perfect consistency.
-Food coloring: Use 1 teaspoon of orange food coloring to give these donuts a Halloween color profile.
-Candies: You will want to use 4 tablespoons of orange candies, 2 tablespoons of brown candies, and ½ cup of candy eyes so that every donut looks spooky and fun.
How to make Baked Monster Halloween Donuts
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and lightly spray a donut pan with nonstick cooking spray before setting it aside.
In a mixing bowl, beat together the eggs and sugar for 2-3 minutes until it’s pale in color.
Add in the oil and milk and then mix again.
Sift the flour into another bowl and add in the cinnamon, vanilla, baking powder, and salt, whisking to combine.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ones and mix well.
Transfer the batter to a piping bag and cut the corner.
Pipe the filling into the donut shapes making sure to fill each one ¾ of the way full. (Recipe yields 12 donuts.)
Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes.
In a bowl whisk together the powdered sugar, water, and food coloring until smooth.
After the donuts have cooled, remove them from the mold.
Turn the donuts over and dip them into the icing.
Top with your Halloween sprinkles and candy eyeballs for the full monster effect. Enjoy!
What Type of Vanilla Extract Should I Use?
A few years ago I tested 10 different vanilla extracts and found new favorites! I love using TOTONAC’s Mexican Vanilla for everyday use. It’s pure vanilla and contains no alcohol, which I like because I don’t like the taste of extracts made with alcohol. Each time I try another, I go back to Totonac’s quickly afterward; it’s so good! I also love using Nielsen Massey Vanilla Bean Paste. Again, this one has the best flavor by far!
