Instant Pot Refried Beans are easy to make, full of flavor and taste just like the refried beans at your favorite Mexican restaurant! This easy refried bean recipe doesn’t require any overnight soaking and only requires a few minutes of preparation.
Instant Pot Refried Beans are absolutely delicious! Many refried bean recipes require the beans to soak overnight, but using the instant pot eliminates that step. Once the pinto beans have been rinsed, you just add a few simple ingredients and then let them cook for about an hour. These refried beans are so much better than the kind that comes in a can and they really are just so easy to make.
What do you serve with refried beans?
Refried Beans make an excellent side dish to serve alongside any of your favorite Mexican entrees. We love to serve them with burritos, tacos and enchiladas. We also like to sprinkle a little bit of cheese on top, broil to melt and then serve as a simple dip for tortilla chips.
What kind of beans are in refried beans?
Refried beans are usually made with pinto beans. Pinto beans are cheap, healthy and easy to keep on hand.
Tips for making the best Instant Pot refried beans
Make sure to very finely dice the onions, and make sure that they get completely cooked before adding the beans. If the onions are too large or not completely softened, you will have chunks in your beans and they won’t be as creamy as you want them to be.
Mash the beans as much as you’d like. The beans will be so soft at the end of cooking that they can very easily be mashed by hand with a potato masher. You can also use an immersion blender if you prefer. If you don’t want to completely mash the beans, that’s fine. If you want them completely mashed, that’s fine too!
Change it up by using black beans. If you prefer black beans, you can use them instead. Black beans don’t mash quite as easily, but they work really well in this recipe.
Add some more spice if desired. You can even add small chopped jalapenos and cook them with the onions if you want a little bit of kick. Bell peppers work too if you don’t like your beans quite so spicy.
