Easter Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients
Rice Krispie Cereal: This forms the crispy base of the treats, giving them structure and that classic light, crunchy texture.
Marshmallows (regular + pastel mini): Melted marshmallows act as the sweet, sticky binder that holds everything together, while the extra pastel marshmallows add pops of color and soft gooey bites.
Butter: Butter adds richness and flavor while helping create a smooth, creamy marshmallow mixture that coats the cereal evenly.
M&Ms: These bring a festive spring look along with a crunchy, chocolatey contrast to the soft and chewy texture of the treats.
Tips & Tricks for making Rice Krispie Treats for Easter
Full instructions are in the recipe card below, but here are some tips for making the process easier!
- Use nonstick spray on everything – Spray your bowl, spatula, and even your hands to prevent sticking and make spreading the mixture much easier.
- Don’t fully melt all the marshmallows – Leave some small lumps when stirring so you get pockets of gooey marshmallow throughout instead of a uniform texture.
- Add the pastel marshmallows and M&Ms last – Stir them in after the mixture has cooled slightly so they don’t completely melt and lose their color and texture.
- Lightly press, don’t pack – Gently press the mixture into the pan to keep the treats soft and airy; pressing too firmly will make them dense and hard.
How long are these Easy Rice Krispie Treats good for?
These Spring Rice Krispie Treats are best enjoyed within 2–3 days when stored in an airtight container at room temperature, as they’ll start to dry out over time.
Freezing isn’t typically recommended because it can change the texture of the marshmallows and make the treats less soft and gooey, but if needed, you can freeze them tightly wrapped for up to 4–6 weeks and let them thaw at room temperature before serving.
How do you make Rice Krispie treats without the sticky mess?
The trick is to spray everything with nonstick spray—not just your 9×13 pan, but also the mixing bowl and your rubber scraper before you start. This keeps the marshmallow mixture from clinging to every surface, making it much easier to stir and spread into the pan without frustration (and without a big sticky cleanup afterward!).

Spring Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients
- 5 cups rice Krispie cereal
- 5 cups regular mini marshmallows
- 4 TBSP butter
- 1 cup pastel mini marshmallows
- 1 cup springtime M&M’s
Instructions
- Spray a 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside. Measure out rice Krispie cereal and set aside.
- In a large, microwavable bowl combine the regular mini marshmallows and butter. (I like to spray the bowl and a rubber spatula first with non-stick spray to make this entire process easier!)
- Microwave for 1 minute on high, until the marshmallows begin to puff up. Remove from microwave and stir in cereal. Once it's well incorporated, add in pastel mini marshmallows and M&M's. Stir until mixture is combined. Transfer to the pan and press gently, making the top as level as possible. Cool and cut into squares. Enjoy!

Can I use regular marshmallows instead of mini marshmallows?
Yes! Regular marshmallows work fine, but mini marshmallows melt faster and help create a smoother, more evenly sticky texture.
Can I make these Easter Rice Krispie Treats ahead of time?
Absolutely! Make them a day ahead and store in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them soft and chewy.
Can I use different candy instead of M&Ms?
Yes! You can swap in chocolate chips, Reese’s Pieces, or any small candies you like—but add them last so they don’t melt.
