Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix could not be any simpler to make! All it takes is a cake mix + peaches + a can of soda. Delicious and easy peach cobbler recipe!
Can you make peach cobbler with a cake mix?
Yes! It’s one of my favorite ways to make peach cobbler! Peach Cobbler is the way to use up all of those fresh peaches. I used to make this delicious but way-too-time-consuming Peach Cobbler recipe each year. It was so good, but honestly I dreaded making it! I kept hearing about a really easy Peach Cobbler recipe that uses cake mix and a can of soda. I adore my Country Apple Dumplings that also use a can of soda as the base, so I knew I had to try it. The verdict? Oh my it’s so easy and personally, I think it’s just as delicious as the time-consuming cobbler!
Which Cake Mix do you use in Peach Cobbler?
There are several different options regarding which cake mix you can use in this peach cobbler recipe. Most people use a yellow, butter or white cake mix. Spice Cake mix tastes like heaven and you can omit the cinnamon on top- that way it’s just 3 ingredients and so fast & easy! I’ve used cake mixes with pudding and without- it really does work either way. I think the leftovers are better if you use a cake mix without pudding. Just a personal preference though.
How to make Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix
Making this peach cobbler is incredibly simple! You can use either fresh or canned peaches- even frozen peaches that have been slightly thawed. Spray a 9×13 glass dish with non-stick spray, then add the peaches to the pan. Sprinkle the cake mix on top, then pour a can of lemon lime soda over the cake mix. It will fizz and bubble while you preheat the oven. Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top, then bake the cobbler for 1 hour. Top with vanilla ice cream of course!
Fresh or Canned Peaches?
You’ll need about 5-6 cups of peaches for peach cobbler. You can use fresh peaches, just be sure to peel the peaches beforehand. Canned peaches work too! You’ll need two large 24 ounce cans of peaches, drained.
How to peel peaches
A simple way to peel peaches is to submerge RIPE peaches in boiling water for about 15-20 seconds. The peel will literally slide right off! Peaches that aren’t quite as ripe may require a little more effort in getting the peel off, but it’s still a lot easier!
EASY PEACH COBBLER WITH CAKE MIX
Ingredients
- 1 box Spice cake mix
- 12 oz can of lemon lime soda
- 6 cups peaches Use about two 24-oz cans drained peaches
Instructions
- Peel and slice fresh peaches into chunks (or drain canned peaches). Place into a 9×13 pan that’s been sprayed with non-stick spray.
- Sprinkle cake mix directly on top of peaches. Use a spoon {or your hand like me!} to gently press the cake mix down into the peaches.
- Pour the can of soda on top. Make sure you pour it all over the cake mix, attempting to cover it completely.
- Now preheat your oven to 350 degrees. The cobbler will just sit and bubble around for a few minutes while the oven is preheating. This is good!
- Bake cobbler for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or top with whipped topping! ENJOY!

Optional additions to peach cobbler with a cake mix:
I think this peach cobbler is fantastic on its own but adding something sounds good too! I think adding 1/4 cup of chopped pecans is a good idea. Topping the baked cobbler with vanilla ice cream is heavenly, but butter pecan ice cream would be delicious too. Add a drizzle of caramel to the top- wow!

What should the consistency be?

Instant Tapioca sprinkled with the fruit will help set the fruit. So will corn strarch. Butter can be substituted for the soda… But you need to dot the whole top so when it melts it covers. I use my home made bottled peaches or apples with most of the juice and add the tapioca so it thickens. My favorite is to bake in a Dutch oven. So good!

Can I add an oatmeal/brown sugar/cold butter mixture on top after adding the soda, or will the end result be way too sweet? Thank you!
Rose says
It was a little sweet, but I loved the oats! I'll leave the brown sugar out of the topping next time! I can't believe how easy this was!
Rose says
I added 1 cup of oatmeal, 4 ounces of cold small diced butter, a dash of cinnamon and 1/2 cup brown sugar and mixed it in with a portion of the cake mix to put on top, after putting the remainder of the cake mix on first. The 1/2 cup brown sugar was way too much, but I really loved the crunchy topping! For added insurance, I drained the peaches by adding 2 tablespoons of flour and a dash of

I’ve got this in the oven now. I am trying it with Ginger Ale b/c I don’t have any lemon lime soda. I think it’s going to be great! Thanks for the super easy recipe!
Karen Wolf says
How was it with the ginger ale? I almost used that but then found a Sprite so I used that. I’m thinking the ginger ale would be good. Mine is in the oven right now.

Question? Where you state to sprinkle the yellow cake mix and push into the peaches. Do I have to mix the cake mix first and then place in the pan or do I just open it sprinkle it on as is? Please advise.
Jessica says
You just sprinkle the dry cake mix- directly from the box. 🙂
Kelly K. says
I just sprinkled cake mix on top and used a fork to just coat all the peaches. I also used a little more than a can of
7 up because just a can did not seem enough. I will let you know how it comes out 🙂
Pam Salinas says
The cake mix is dry. Just scroll down and look at he pictures it should help.
Jessica says
Thanks Pam!

2 TBS of cinnamon seems like so much. Is it really tablespoons like it says or is it teaspoons?
Jessica says
I know it sounds like a lot, but it really is 2 tablespoons! Feel free to decrease it if you’re worried. It’s not overwhelming- it adds a nice touch to the cobbler!
Laura says
I just made this recipe with orange crush and replaced the cinnamon with vanilla bourbon. Love it…just in time for peach season. Thanks for sharing.

What if the soda does not fizz. My daughter had half of can in the fridge and did not tell me how long it had been there. I halved the recipe since I did not have enough peaches. I did the recipe but have not got it finished yet. Wish me luck!
Jessica says
I’m not sure- I’ve never used flat soda before. Let me know how it goes!

I prepared this cobbler last night and although it was flavorful, the topping was hard and too crunchy for my taste, Also there were a few areas of dried cake mix, even after following the recipe as written,

Lisa says
This may be a dumb question but do I mix the cake mix or it stays dry?
Jessica says
The cake mix should be dry when you sprinkle it on!
Roberta says
