How to make Peaches and Cream salad
Full instructions for making this peach fruit salad can be found on the recipe card below, but here are a few helpful tip.
- Don’t skip fresh peaches: Fresh, ripe peaches provide the best flavor and a juicy, firm texture that holds up well in the salad.
- Chill before serving: Refrigerating the salad for at least an hour before serving allows the flavors to meld and the salad to firm up, creating the best taste and consistency.
- Make ahead: This salad can be made several hours or a day in advance, making it a perfect option for parties or busy days.
- Try variations: Swap in peach yogurt for extra peach flavor, or add berries like raspberries or strawberries for a colorful twist.
- Use stabilized whipped cream: If you prefer not to use Cool Whip, you can make stabilized whipped cream by beating 1 cup heavy cream with 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until soft peaks form, then adding 4 ounces of softened cream cheese and whipping until stiff peaks form. This will hold up well in the salad without deflating.

Storage Instructions
- Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Make-ahead: Prepares beautifully the day before serving, allowing flavors to develop.

FAQs
Can I use frozen peaches? Fresh peaches are best for both texture and flavor in this recipe, as they hold their shape and add a juicy bite. However, if you only have frozen peaches, let them thaw completely and drain excess liquid before folding into the salad to prevent it from becoming watery.
Can I make this ahead? Yes, Peach Fruit Salad can be made a few hours or even a day in advance. In fact, allowing the salad to chill gives the flavors time to meld together, creating an even creamier texture and a deeper peach-vanilla flavor.
What should I serve this with? This salad is perfect on its own as a refreshing side or light dessert. It also pairs well with brunch dishes, grilled meats, or alongside other summer salads for a potluck or family dinner.
Can I add other fruits? Yes! Adding fresh berries like raspberries, blueberries, or strawberries can add color and a hint of tartness that complements the creamy base and sweet peaches. Just fold them in gently to avoid breaking them apart.
Can I use homemade whipped cream instead of Cool Whip? Absolutely. If you prefer to avoid Cool Whip, you can make stabilized whipped cream at home. Beat 1 cup heavy cream with 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Then add 4 oz softened cream cheese and continue to beat until stiff peaks form, ensuring your whipped cream holds up well in the salad.

What can I use besides yogurt?? I hate yogurt.
Nellie says
I’m not sure what the best option is for replacing the yogurt since there really isn’t anything similar enough to replace it with! If it’s just the consistency of yogurt that you don’t like, you may still like this salad because the addition of the pudding and whipped topping changes the consistency so you really can’t even tell that it’s yogurt!

I’am just now starting to try out recipes, so am kind of nervous about trying new things. I was wondering do you cook the peaches if you do for long. Or do you just peel the peaches and cut them. Thank you for any help you can give me.
Nellie says
Yolanda- this recipe is super easy so don’t be nervous! You don’t need to cook the peaches at all – just peel them and chop them up!
Rhonda Johnson says
If it’s at a time of the year and fresh peaches aren’t available to me, can i substitute canned peaches?
Nellie says
You can use canned peaches, just make sure they are drained really well so that there isn’t any extra moisture. I would even pat them dry for a little bit with a paper towel to absorb the extra liquid so that the salad doesn’t get soupy. Enjoy!
Bernice says
Can you used cans peaches in this recipe?
Nellie says
Canned peaches should work fine, just make sure to drain them really well so that the salad isn’t too runny! Enjoy!
Pamela says
I was just going to ask the same question, as I don’t have any fresh peaches, and a neighbor gave me two small cans of peaches.
I just realized I don’t have any vanilla yogurt either 😞.
Would it be okay to leave it out?
Ugh! I will be glad when this pandemic is over and I don’t have to feel rushed to get in and out of the store so quickly and forget things!!!
Thanks for your help and hope and pray 🙏 everyone is safe and well!!!
Christine Dearing says
Do you use the pudding mix raw or do you mix it by the recipe on the box.
Nellie says
Christine- just put the dry pudding mix in!
Denise says
if using the canned peaches, how many cans would you use or how many ounces? this looks so good, thank you!
Nellie says
I would probably use 2 regular sized cans of peaches? You can definitely add more if you think there aren’t enough in there! Just make sure to drain them really well!
Denise says
thank you!

This is our “go to” recipe to bring for potlucks. My daughter and I make it all the time and laugh when we call it “salad.” We love to make the pudding mixture a day ahead of time because we like the texture better the second day. Just fold in your fruit, or sometimes we have it plain. Our favorite combinations are vanilla Greek style yogurt and either the white chocolate or cheesecake pudding (don’t seem to ever find those two flavors in a large box so we use 2 of the smaller. Works perfectly.)

Mary Young says
Will fresh peaches retain their fresh look or do you toss a little ‘fruit fresh’ on ’em before adding to the cream mixture? It looks delicious.
Nellie says
Fresh peaches hold up pretty well without adding anything to them. Hope you enjoy this salad as much as we do!
Danielle says
Could you do pineapple or strawberries to change it up a bit? I
Alison says
Yes for sure!
Carol nauman says
Can you freeze any of your peaches/ raspberry etc?
Nellie says
I’m not sure what you’re asking. You can use frozen fruit in the salad, but I wouldn’t recommend freezing the salad after making it.
Evelyn Myskiw says
This recipe is great. Will keep it on the top of my list.
