Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix could not be any simpler to make! All it takes is a cake mix + peaches + a can of soda. Delicious and easy peach cobbler recipe!
Can you make peach cobbler with a cake mix?
Yes! It’s one of my favorite ways to make peach cobbler! Peach Cobbler is the way to use up all of those fresh peaches. I used to make this delicious but way-too-time-consuming Peach Cobbler recipe each year. It was so good, but honestly I dreaded making it! I kept hearing about a really easy Peach Cobbler recipe that uses cake mix and a can of soda. I adore my Country Apple Dumplings that also use a can of soda as the base, so I knew I had to try it. The verdict? Oh my it’s so easy and personally, I think it’s just as delicious as the time-consuming cobbler!
Which Cake Mix do you use in Peach Cobbler?
There are several different options regarding which cake mix you can use in this peach cobbler recipe. Most people use a yellow, butter or white cake mix. Spice Cake mix tastes like heaven and you can omit the cinnamon on top- that way it’s just 3 ingredients and so fast & easy! I’ve used cake mixes with pudding and without- it really does work either way. I think the leftovers are better if you use a cake mix without pudding. Just a personal preference though.
How to make Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix
Making this peach cobbler is incredibly simple! You can use either fresh or canned peaches- even frozen peaches that have been slightly thawed. Spray a 9×13 glass dish with non-stick spray, then add the peaches to the pan. Sprinkle the cake mix on top, then pour a can of lemon lime soda over the cake mix. It will fizz and bubble while you preheat the oven. Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top, then bake the cobbler for 1 hour. Top with vanilla ice cream of course!
Fresh or Canned Peaches?
You’ll need about 5-6 cups of peaches for peach cobbler. You can use fresh peaches, just be sure to peel the peaches beforehand. Canned peaches work too! You’ll need two large 24 ounce cans of peaches, drained.
How to peel peaches
A simple way to peel peaches is to submerge RIPE peaches in boiling water for about 15-20 seconds. The peel will literally slide right off! Peaches that aren’t quite as ripe may require a little more effort in getting the peel off, but it’s still a lot easier!
EASY PEACH COBBLER WITH CAKE MIX
Ingredients
- 1 box Spice cake mix
- 12 oz can of lemon lime soda
- 6 cups peaches Use about two 24-oz cans drained peaches
Instructions
- Peel and slice fresh peaches into chunks (or drain canned peaches). Place into a 9×13 pan that’s been sprayed with non-stick spray.
- Sprinkle cake mix directly on top of peaches. Use a spoon {or your hand like me!} to gently press the cake mix down into the peaches.
- Pour the can of soda on top. Make sure you pour it all over the cake mix, attempting to cover it completely.
- Now preheat your oven to 350 degrees. The cobbler will just sit and bubble around for a few minutes while the oven is preheating. This is good!
- Bake cobbler for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or top with whipped topping! ENJOY!

Optional additions to peach cobbler with a cake mix:
I think this peach cobbler is fantastic on its own but adding something sounds good too! I think adding 1/4 cup of chopped pecans is a good idea. Topping the baked cobbler with vanilla ice cream is heavenly, but butter pecan ice cream would be delicious too. Add a drizzle of caramel to the top- wow!

I've made one similar in the past, but with butter instead of Sprite. I'm trying this one tonight..who needs all that butter anyway? 🙂
Lana Kempker says
my one 29 oz can of peaches doesn't fill the bottom of the dish. I have to go back to the store 🙁
Jessica Williams says
I'm sorry Lana! that line of ingredients is confusing- you should use a total of 5-6 cups of peaches, which would likely be 2 cans. I'll update the post- again, I apologize!

Can you use diet soda?
dreamlover01 says
Can it be done without the cinnamon as well? My boyfriend loves peaches and this looks sooooo good but he is allergic to cinnamon. 🙁
Linda Smith says
I'm sure the cinnamon is just for the flavor – so yes it can be left off. I would recommend perhaps a sprinkle of sugar over the top of the bubbly – it would make a bit of a crust once the cobbler is cooked and might brown up a bit to give you the cinnamon look. (I understand about allergies – mine is paprika!)

Made this today at work for our March Madness luncheon and EVERYONE loved it! So easy to make too!
Elorac says
Can ginger ale, seltzer water/sparkling water be used instead? <br />Does soda even have to be used at all? Or can there be a water mix made, like maybe a mixture of water, baking soda and vinegar or something like that??? Just want to understand the importance of the soda.
christi says
what can you use to replace the soda? I want to use apples instead….
Unknown says
There is a lot of sugar in soda. I don't think it would be sweet enough with sparkling water. Also cooking with a diet soda would probably have a different result as well – not as moist? I don't cook with sugar substitutes, so I don't know what it would do.
Nicole Miller says
If the recipe is, as written, why do folks come here to sites and ask about substitutes so far off from the original recipe? The recipe calls for soda, if you are against or can't consume soda, it's not the recipe for you! If she uses soda, I highly doubt she's substituted WATER, at ANY point! Think a little bit, when you ask questions/respond! Just a little pet peeve of mine.
Ms V. says
LOL! I agree…
tell it like it is!
jean barton says
Well I have a pet peeve also, people who are not understanding’ I have diabetes, so I am going to use a sugar free cake mix & a diet soda. Think before you speak or post, some people have problems but love food, so why not do what you have to do so you cab enjoy what other people are enjoying, not do without!!
Tasie Miranda says
My mother has high blood sugar I made this using diet and sugar free and it was amazing. I myself love sugar and hate sugar free anything but this was great
Pam Salinas says
This is true however I have two family members diabetes and I make many things that are tweaked from the original recipe but I just do it without trying question person. Usually if they’ve tried a substitute they ‘ll mention it. So I see both sides.

Rachel Ramirez says
Why did mine comes out watery or soupy? Baked it for one hour and let it even settle.
Jessica Williams says
I'm not sure why yours came out soupy Rachel… did you use canned peaches? If so, did you drain them well?
