- Versatile: You can enjoy these biscuits with butter, jam, or even on their own. They pair beautifully with both sweet and savory toppings.
Milk & Honey Biscuit Ingredients
Flour: You need 2 cups of flour for the structural base of these biscuits.
Baking powder: Add baking powder to help the biscuits rise as they bake.
Salt: Enhance the flavors with ½ tsp of salt.
Cream of tartar: Helps to improve the texture of the biscuits.
Butter: Use ½ cup of cold butter in this recipe.
Milk: Adding milk gives the biscuits the liquid to stay moist as they bake.
Honey: Sweeten the dough slightly with 1 TBSP of honey.

Important Steps for making Milk & Honey Biscuits
Full recipe directions are below, but here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Use cold butter: Cold butter creates flaky layers. Cut it into small cubes and incorporate it quickly into the dough while it is still cold. OR, you can grate frozen butter, which I do all the time! It makes mixing into the dough so much easier!
- Be careful to not overmix your dough: Gently combine the ingredients until just mixed. Overmixing can lead to tough biscuits, which we don’t want.
- Place your biscuits in a preheated oven: Preheating your oven is essential for evening baking, ensuring a proper rise and cooking, to achieve the desired soft texture we are going for with these biscuits.
How long are these good for & how do you store them?
These biscuits can last for about 2 to 3 days when stored in an airtight container at room temperature. To keep them fresh longer, refrigeration is an option, though it may alter the texture slightly.

Can you freeze these biscuits?
Yes, these biscuits can be frozen. They should be placed in an airtight container or freezer bag. Properly stored, they can last for up to three months in the freezer, maintaining their flavor and texture.

Milk & Honey Biscuit Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 TBSP baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp cream of tartar
- ½ cup cold butter
- ⅔ cup milk
- 1 TBSP honey
Instructions
- Prep: Spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside. Preheat the oven to 400° F.
- Dough: In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar; cut in the butter until crumbly. (You can alternately grate frozen butter instead!) Stir in the milk and honey just until moistened.
- Shape: Turn onto a floured surface; knead gently 8-10 times. Roll out to 1-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2” biscuit cutter. (Tip: if you cut 9 biscuits and have leftover dough, divide it equally among the other biscuits and place it on the underside of each biscuit, so that you can use all the dough, but still preserve the pretty biscuit tops.)
- Bake: Place the biscuits 1 in. apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with butter and additional honey. Enjoy!

Serving suggestions for homemade biscuits
Milk and honey biscuits pair well with a variety of toppings. They can be served with butter and jam, honey drizzle, or even a dollop of clotted cream. Additionally, they complement savory dishes, making them great alongside soups or stews.

Which type of flour yields the best results for these biscuits?
You can use all-purpose flour, but bread flour is recommended for milk and honey biscuits. It provides a balanced texture and structure. For a different flavor profile, whole wheat flour can be used in a 50-50 ratio.
What’s the secret to the fluffiest homemade biscuits?
To achieve fluffiness, make sure your butter is cold and cut into small pieces before mixing. This creates steam pockets as they bake, resulting in a light texture.
Also, avoid overmixing the dough. A gentle hand will keep the biscuits tender, allowing them to rise beautifully in the oven. NEVER use a mixer!
