If you’re looking for a nice dessert to bring to the table, or the party, then don’t overlook this easy Dream whip chocolate mousse pie. It’s so easy to make and even easier if you use a store-bought prepared pie crust. This pie is always a great option for summertime BBQs, parties, and weeknight after-dinner sweets.
What is Dream Whip?
Dream Whip is a shelf-stable whipped topping mix that is sold in most grocery store’s baked goods section. The product itself is made from whey (a natural ingredient in milk), sugar and cornstarch. It’s similar to Cool Whip, only it doesn’t have to be refrigerated or frozen prior to being mixed, so it’s super simple to keep on hand! It comes together in just a few minutes and is so easy to make. The package itself instructs users to mix the powder with water, but we use milk here in this pie recipe for a super thick & creamy dessert.
Dream Pie
Dream pie is a wonderful recipe made of only 5 ingredients. It comes together fast and easily which is perfect for a fast prep dessert. It’s named “Dream Pie” because of the store-bought Dream Whip that’s used to make the pie. Fluffy, creamy, chocolatey goodness await you in this wonderful pie recipe. Top it off with some whipped cream and chocolate curls for a fabulously impressive finish.
Dream Pie Ingredients
-Dream Whip: You will need 2 envelopes of Dream whip. This is a product found in a blue box by the pudding mixes in the baking aisle of the grocery store.
-Cold milk: Use 2 ¾ cups of cold milk for this recipe.
-Vanilla extract: Adding in 1 teaspoon of vanilla will make this pie taste great.
-Instant pudding: You will need 2 (3.4oz) boxes of instant pudding. Any flavor will do, but chocolate is my favorite.
-Pie crust: Use a storebought crust or make one yourself. Oreo crust works well with the chocolate filling.

What flavor pudding mixes can I use?
Classic Dream pie uses chocolate pudding. You can use any instant pudding mix flavors desired. Some great options include lemon, strawberry, vanilla, butterscotch, and pistachio. You can also use sugar free pudding mixes if you want to cut down on the sweetness and make it more diabetic-friendly.
How long is dream whip pie good for?
This pie can last up to 3 or 4 days in the fridge if left well covered. For best results eat within 2 days because as the pie ages the texture might change slightly.
HOW DO YOU MAKE STABILIZED WHIPPED CREAM?
If you want to make whipped cream ahead of time, you can, but you have to stabilize it. To make stabilized whipped cream, you will need the following ingredients:
- 4 ounces of cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
Beat the whipping cream just until soft peaks form.
Add in the cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. Whip on high until mixture is smooth.
Store in the refrigerator until ready to use, up to 3 days.
A little tip for making whipped cream faster: use a metal bowl and place the bowl in the freezer for about 30 minutes before you make the whipped cream. This will significantly decrease the amount of time that you will need to beat the whipped cream – the process will go much faster!

We’ve been eating ‘Chocolate Dream Pies’ for the holidays for nearly 40 years. It’s so easy to make and the taste is much better than traditional chocolate pie. You know it’s a hit when even the most finicky of eaters devour it.
