Rice Krispie Pumpkins made with a few simple ingredients are perfect for Halloween! These simple no-bake treats are so easy to make!
We love Rice Krispie treats, especially since there are so many ways to change them up. You can make them in the microwave, no oven necessary! These little Rice Krispie pumpkins are perfect for fall and Halloween parties!
It’s no secret that we love Rice Krispie Treats! Here are a few reasons why:
- So easy to make! Rice Krispie Treats only require a few ingredients and take about 5 minutes to prepare. Just set them up for about an hour and they are ready to eat – no baking required!
- So many variations. Even though I love traditional Rice Krispie Treats, I also love how easy it is to change them up a little bit.
- They are delicious! I make a lot of desserts, but Rice Krispie Treats are still one of my all-time favorites and every time I make them for a party, they are devoured in minutes.
INGREDIENTS IN RICE KRISPIE PUMPKINS
Butter – You will need ¼ cup of butter to melt with the marshmallows. I always use salted butter, but I’m sure unsalted would work just fine as well.
Marshmallows – You will need a 16-ounce bag of regular-sized marshmallows. Although the recipe calls for large marshmallows, you can use mini marshmallows instead if you’d like.
Food coloring – A few drops of orange food coloring are needed to make the marshmallow mixture the perfect shade of orange.
Rice Krispie cereal – You will need 5 cups of crispy rice cereal (Rice Krispies).
M&Ms – You will need 16 green mini M&M’s to make the “leaves” on the pumpkins. You can add extra M&Ms if you want more leaves!
Tootsie Rolls – You can use mini Tootsie Rolls to provide the “stems” for the pumpkins. Make sure you unwrap them first!
How to make Rice Krispie Pumpkins
Add the butter to a large microwave-safe bowl and heat in 15-20 second increments, stirring in between each interval until fully melted.
In the same bowl, add a few drops of the food coloring to the butter and mix.
Add the marshmallows and heat in the microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring in between each interval until melted, approximately 1- 1 ½ minutes.
Add 4-5 more drops of orange food coloring and stir, using a fork, until the desired color is reached.
Pour the Rice Krispies, a cup at a time, into the mixture and stir until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray, then scoop out a handful of the rice krispie mixture and roll it between your palms forming a ball.
Place the rice krispie balls onto a sheet of parchment paper.
Make a small indention with your finger into the top center of the ball and add one mini tootsie roll for the stem and one mini green M&M on the side for a leaf. Use your hands to reshape if needed. It is much easier to add the stem and leaf when the mixture is still warm, so try to do this part quickly before the pumpkins set up too much!

HOW DO YOU KEEP RICE KRISPIE TREATS SOFT?
Here are several ways to keep rice krispie treats soft. They’re simple but effective!
- Make sure to not use stale marshmallows. Seriously. Rice Krispie Treats are not the treat to use up those old, hard marshmallows! Recently purchased marshmallows work best.
- Watch that you don’t overcook. You want to heat the marshmallows just until they are melted, not any longer than that!
- Always remember the butter. The marshmallow-butter combination helps keep the treats soft and chewy, so don’t leave it out or reduce the measurement.
- Don’t chill in the refrigerator. Even if you want them to set quickly, I find this just dries the marshmallow treats out more quickly.
- Store in an airtight container on the countertop and eat within 2 days for best results!
HOW DO I KEEP MY FINGERS FROM STICKING?
I find the easiest way to do this is to spray a little bit of non-stick cooking spray on my hands before shaping the rice krispie mixture. You can also spread a little bit of softened butter on your fingers if you prefer.
