Making Fudge Walnut Cake Mix Cookies
With this easy cake mix cookies recipe on hand, you can stock up on boxed mixes during your next store sale and then make cookies whenever your heart desires. While you can leave out the walnuts or swap them out for pecans, having that added crunch and golden brown color is nice. Adding mini marshmallows would turn it into a rocky road experience too!
How long do cake mix cookies last?
These cookies will last about 5 days at room temperature if stored in an airtight baggie. While they can last longer, the quality goes down and the cookies may become stale the longer they are there.
Can I freeze fudge walnut cake mix cookies?
Yes, these cookies can be frozen. Simply place them on a baking sheet and freeze until solid (about an hour) before transferring them to an airtight container and placing them in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Fudge Walnut Cake Mix Cookies Ingredients
-1 box 18.25 oz Devil’s Food Cake Mix
-2 eggs
-1/3 cup coconut oil {or butter}
-1 heaping cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
-1/2 cup chopped walnuts (or pecans)
How to Make Fudge Walnut Cake-Mix Cookies
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray.
Measure out 1/3 cup of coconut oil and then stick it in the microwave for about 20 seconds to melt it. {It mixes better this way.}
Combine your cake mix and eggs in a medium mixing bowl. Add in the melted coconut oil. Mix well. The mixture will be thick.
Add in the chocolate chips and walnuts and stir to combine. The cookie dough will be firm.
Use a small cookie scoop to measure out the dough and then place them on the cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Once they’re done, remove them from the oven and let them rest for another 3-5 minutes on the hot cookie sheet. Then transfer to cooling racks to cool completely.
Makes 3 dozen cookies.

Are fudge walnut cake mix cookies dairy free?
If you choose a nondairy chocolate chip variety and grab a dairy free box of devils food cake mix, then yes- they’d be dairy free! Double check for cross contamination warnings on all ingredients if you’re avoiding dairy due to a dairy allergy.
Would a regular box of chocolate cake mix work?
Yes it would work exactly the same as a box of devil’s food cake, but the results won’t be exactly the same. The devil’s food cake has a higher amount of chocolate giving it a stronger flavor whereas regular chocolate cake would taste good, it may not be as strong of a flavor as you’re looking for.
