Easy Slow Cooker Sweet Pork requires just 3 ingredients and a slow cooker! Perfect crock pot pork recipe that only takes a few minutes of prep. Serve in tortillas, on a salad, or as a sandwich!
What type of pork roast to use for crockpot sweet pork?
What to serve with sweet pork?
I prefer to serve sweet pork on salads with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, cheese, rice and beans. The pork can easily be used in tacos, burritos and enchiladas or even just plain over rice. When we make sweet pork for dinner, we usually serve it buffet style with lettuce, tortillas and all of the other ingredients. That way, everyone can build on their own salads or burritos and eat it however they’d like!
This pork recipe is perfect to make when having people over for dinner because everyone can make their own meal with it according to individual preferences and then everyone is happy!
Ingredients in Slow Cooker Sweet Pork
- 1 boneless pork roast (about 2 lbs)
- 16 oz. jar salsa (2 cups)
- 1 cup brown sugar
How to make the easiest sweet pork in the slow cooker
Mix the salsa and brown sugar together in a medium sized bowl.
Place the pork roast in a slow cooker and then pour the salsa/brown sugar mixture on top.
Cook on low for about 7-8 hours or high for about 4-5 hours. At this point, the roast should be tender enough that you can pull it all apart with a fork very easily. You can serve it immediately at this point, but if you have time, let it cook on low for another hour or two before serving.
Serve the pork however you choose – I usually use it to make salads and burritos, and sometimes we just eat it served over rice.

What type of salsa to use in the sweet pork recipe?
I usually just use Pace Picante, but you can use any type of salsa that you want to! I’ve even made this with a green salsa and that works wonderfully too! You can use fresh salsa, homemade salsa or any variety from the store – it all works well!
How long does it take to slow cook pork?
When you cook a pork roast in a slow cooker, how long you cook it for depends on how large your roast is. I use a small 3-4 pound boneless pork roast for this recipe and I like to cook it in a slow cooker on LOW for at least 7-8 hours, but if you have time, 10-12 hours is even better. You can cook it on HIGH for 4-5 hours, but I think the texture and flavor is better when you cook it on low.
I like cook this Pork Roast recipe in a 4.5 quart basic crock pot. (Basic but so pretty!)
How to make sweet pork in an Instant Pot
I’ve also begun making this in my Instant Pot and it’s AMAZING. It’s quite a bit faster than using a Slow Cooker (it takes about 2 hours total!) and the results are perfect! I use a small, 2-lb Pork Sirloin Tip Roast from Costco. It’s fall apart tender and so flavorful! Instant Pot instructions included below- I’ve even made it in my baby 3-qt Instant Pot with great success!
- Place Pork Roast roast in Instant Pot. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over the roast.
- Lock lid on and set Instant Pot to Manual High Pressure for 65 minutes (for a 2-lb Sirloin Tip Roast that was fall-apart tender. Add 10 minutes per additional pound of pork roast.)
- When timer beeps, let it Natural Pressure Release. Remove the lid and use two forks to gently shred the pork apart.

I was an original customer of the first (St. George, UT) location of Cafe' Rio… under the original founder. After I had their sweet pork I just HAD to try to recreate it. My recipe is pretty much yours except that I use a big can of red enchilada sauce rather than salsa. We serve the pork very much like Cafe' Rio does their "founder's favorite enchilada style burrito" –

This is delicious! We had it with rice, perfect on its own! My husband wants pulled pork sandwiches for Father’s Day. Would this work well on buns? And do you have any suggestions for what to add as garnish? Fried onions maybe? Would cheese taste ok? I don’t really want to serve just plain buns and meat without yummy toppings. Any help would be appreciated! 🙂

We love to top ours with coleslaw! Sounds a little odd but it’s SO GOOD. Cheese would be yummy too!

Would this be good over mashed potatoes?
Jessica says
I think that sounds fantastic Maggie!

Question about the wonderful sounding sweet pork recipe. If made in the Instant Pot, you said to do a natural release… do you mean until it’s completely released or just for a certain length of time?
Thanks for the recipe – sounds yummy! 🙂
Nellie says
I usually just let it release all the way. Hope you enjoy it!
