Corn is a great side dish to any BBQ, holiday feast, or even Sunday dinner. With this easy corn on the cob recipe, you’ll always have a simple recipe you can use to impress and feed your guests.
We’ve been on a corn-on-the-cob kick this summer, so I thought I’d share this super simple recipe with you. It’s fast, it’s easy, and everyone loves it. I created a video to show how I’ve been cooking our corn too- we LOVE this method!! It’s mess-free and done in no time at all.
Microwave Corn in Husk
If you’re like most corn on the cob eaters, you probably tire from peeling back the husk and silk strings every time you go to cook a new batch. Well, this little “hack” of a recipe is so popular it’s even starting to take off on social media apps! All you have to do is microwave the cobs in the husk, and then the cob falls out almost effortlessly. Saving you time and giving you tender golden corn ready to eat in no time.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Minimal effort. Just wash the corn husks and place them in the microwave. Cook until done, and enjoy. This recipe is so basic that anyone can do it, making it great for novice cooks.
- No heating up the house. Unlike the oven or stove, this recipe won’t heat up the house. This is perfect for a nice side dish on a hot summer’s day! Grill your main dish outside and serve this corn alongside it.
- Easier clean-up. If you peel the husk before cooking the cobs, you’ll have leaves and string everywhere, but if you cook the cobs and husks together first, the corn falls right out of the husk, leaving everything together for a neater cleanup.
Microwave Corn on the Cob Ingredients
Corn– You will need 4 ears of corn that have the husks on.
Butter– Use 2 tablespoons of melted butter for the yummy spread that goes on the cobs after they’ve been cooked.
Lemon juice– Adding 1/4 teaspoon to the melted butter mixture will make the corn taste even better.
Salt– Use 1/4 teaspoon of salt for added flavor enhancement.
Parmesan cheese– You will want to use 1/4 teaspoon of Kraft grated parmesan cheese (this is the kind in the green containers).
Pepper– Add in 1/8 teaspoon (about a pinch) of black pepper for more flavor.
How to Make Easy Corn on the Cob
Prep corn
Wash the outside of the corn husks to get any obvious dirt off.
Microwave corn
Place 2 of the ears of corn on a plate (husks and all!) and microwave according to the info below. (I found it was easier to do mine in sets of 2, although I could fit 3 in my microwave.)
- Microwave 1 ear of corn for 3-5 minutes
- Microwave 2 ears of corn for 5-8 minutes
- Microwave 3 ears of corn for 7-10 minutes
Let rest
After the corn is cooked, let it sit for another 2-3 minutes in the microwave.
Add butter spread
Cut the stalk side and squeeze the opposite end of the corn until the corn falls out of the husk.
Combine butter and the remaining ingredients.
Brush over corn and serve!
Tips for The Perfect Ear of Corn
- When the microwave is done, corn should feel really hot. The time differs just because some ears of corn are skinnier/ fatter than others. If the corn doesn’t feel hot, put it back in for another minute.
- Also, if your corn doesn’t slip easily out of the husk after cutting the stalk, it’s either not cooked enough (put it in for another minute), or you didn’t cut enough of the stalk off.
Enjoy!

Can I microwave corn on the cob without the husk?
If you find yourself with shucked corn, you can still try this recipe by using a slightly damp paper towel around the cobs instead. Microwave as directed, and they should turn out delicious.
How to make multiple servings
A good rule of thumb is to add 2 minutes to the timer every time you add another ear of corn. So one would be 5 minutes, and then 2 would be 7 minutes, three ears would be 9 minutes, etc. Of course, the time can vary based on the actual sizes, so it’s important to try and grab similar sized ears of corn.
How long is leftover corn good for?
You can keep your leftover cooked corn in an airtight container or baggie in the fridge for up to 3 days. If the corn is cooked, you can cut the kernels off of the cob and freeze them for easy future meals if desired.
