Tips for our Dr. Pepper Cream Pie
The full instructions are in the recipe card below, but here are a few tips we wanted to share:
- Save a little time by using a store-bought graham cracker pie crust. It saves time without sacrificing taste!
- Chilling the pie is key. Let it sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight if you can. This helps the flavors meld and the filling set properly. Don’t have that kind of time? Freeze for at least 2-3 hours.
- If you want extra flavor, add a little vanilla extract to the pudding mix before combining. It enhances the vanilla notes nicely.
How long is this pie good for & how do you store it?
Your pie stays good for about 30 days when stored in the freezer. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

I’m confused. In one place it says to freeze for 4 hours but in another it tells you to refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. It sounds like a great recipe but I want to make it the correct way.

It truly just needs to be chilled. If you have time to let it chill in the fridge overnight, that’s the best way. But you can expedite the chilling process by placing it in the freezer. I updated the instructions to make it more clear. 😉
