What is Elf Bait?
Elf bait, also sometimes known as elf crack or elf munch is similar to a Chex mix cereal snack mix in that it has chocolate and cereal at its base. But what makes it unique is the blend of cereals and colors in every batch. We use 3 different kinds of cereal for a fun and flavorful blend of crunch and top it off with white chocolate, mini chocolate chips, and festive colored M&Ms and sprinkles. You may not catch a little elf, but you will catch a good time with this fun Christmas mix.
Sweet Snack Mix Ingredients
-Cereal: You will need 2 cups each of Kellogg’s Krave Chocolate chip cookie dough cereal, General Mill’s Chocolate Cookie Crisp cereal, and General Mill’s Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch cereal.
-White chocolate: Use 2 ½ cups of melted Log house Baking White Chocolate Bar to help coat the cereal and make the toppings stick. I would not suggest melting chocolate chips, they work, but using a bark it makes the melted chocolate silkier and a nicer finish.
-M&Ms: You will need ¼ cup of Christmas colored M&Ms to add some holiday cheer. I recommend sticking with the mini M&Ms so that there’s plenty to go around.
-Sprinkles: Use ⅛ cup (2 tablespoons) of colorful and festive Christmas sprinkles to add more fun.
-Chocolate chips: You will need ¼ cup of mini chocolate chips so that there’s plenty to scatter amongst the mix.

Can I use any cereal?
Absolutely! Go ahead and use your favorite 3 types of cereal if desired (or any cereal you may have on hand). This is a great way to use up the last bit in several boxes because we all know kids don’t wait to finish a box before opening a new one.
How long is elf bait good for?
This bait can be kept in an airtight container for up to a week in the fridge. While it can survive at room temperature the fridge will help to keep the chocolate from melting and becoming a sticky mess. This is also great if you live in a hotter southern state for the holidays and want a chilled treat to enjoy.
Can I freeze elf bait?
Yes! This Christmas snack mix recipe does great in the freezer. You can store your mix in the freezer in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Then when you’re ready to eat, just give it a few minutes to come to room temperature (really doesn’t take long) and enjoy!
