HOW TO MAKE PATRIOTIC CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES
Wash and dry your strawberries. Make sure to dry them well so that the chocolate doesn’t slip off.
Line a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.
In bowls, melt the candy melts according to package directions.
SPRINKLE BERRIES
Dip 3 strawberries into the melted white chocolate, holding the berries by their leaves so that they don’t get coated in chocolate too.
As you remove the berries, twirl to remove excess chocolate. You could also lightly scrape it against the side of the bowl.
Place the berries on parchment paper.
Top the strawberries with sprinkles as soon as you’ve finished dipping them. The sprinkles won’t stick to solid chocolate.
DRIZZLED BERRIES
Repeat the dipping process with the remaining 6 berries, but do not top with sprinkles.
As these berries are setting, melt the red candy melt according to the package instructions.
Dip 3 of the berries into the red chocolate, covering 2/3rds of the strawberry, leaving a bit of white at the top. Twirl or lightly scrape to remove excess chocolate.
Set the remaining 3 berries in a line on the parchment paper.
Dip a spoon into the red candy melt and make sure they’re in a small pool of it inside the bowl of the spoon.
Quickly move the spoon back and forth over the berries to drizzle the red candy melt over the top of these 3 berries.
Keep the berries in line so that this can be repeated with the blue.
RED, WHITE & BLUE BERRIES
While these berries are setting, melt the blue candy melt according to package instructions.
Dip the three berries that had been dipped in the red and white into the blue, only covering 1/3 of the berry to reveal the white and red. Twirl or lightly scrape to remove excess chocolate.
Repeat the drizzling of blue chocolate over the tops of the berries that had been drizzled with red in a line.
These strawberries should set fairly quickly because the candy melts set well.
Remove from the parchment paper when they’ve completely cooled and set.
Place on a platter to serve. Enjoy!
4TH OF JULY CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES
Ingredients
- 9 strawberries
- 12 ounce white candy melts about 2 cups
- 12 ounce red candy melts about 2 cups
- 12 ounce royal blue candy melts about 2 cups
- 1 tbsp festive sprinkles
Instructions
- Wash and dry strawberries. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
- Melt the white candy melts according to package directions.
Sprinkle Berries
- Dip 3 strawberries in the melted white chocolate, holding the strawberries by their leaves so the leaves do not get into the chocolate. As you are removing it from the chocolate, twirl it so the excess falls off. You can also very lightly scrape it against the lip of the bowl. Place them on the parchment paper.
- Top these strawberries with sprinkles as soon as you have finished dipping them. The sprinkles will not stick if you let the chocolate dry.
- Repeat the dipping process with the remaining 6 strawberries, but do not top with sprinkles.
- As these are setting, melt the red candy melts according to package directions.
- Dip three of the strawberries into the red candy melts 2/3 of the way up the strawberries, leaving white at the top. Twirl and scrape the excess off like you did for the white chocolate.
Drizzled Berries
- Set the remaining three strawberries in a line on the parchment paper. Dip a spoon into the red candy melts and make sure there is a small pool in the spoon. Quickly move the spoon back and forth over the 3 strawberries, drizzling them with the red candy. Keep the strawberries in the line to add the blue.
Red, White & Blue Berries
- While these strawberries are setting, melt the blue candy melts according to package directions.
- Dip the three strawberries with red and white stripes into the blue candy melts 1/3 of the way up the strawberries, leaving white and red at the top. Twirl and scrape the excess off like you did for the white chocolate.
- Repeat step 8 using the blue candy melts. After they have set, pick them up and break off the lines of candy melt that go past the strawberries.
- These should set fairly quickly because candy melts set well. Remove them from the parchment paper when the coating is hard and place on a platter to serve. These are best eaten the same day they are made, but can be stored in the refrigerator for 1 day.

How far in advance can I make chocolate strawberries?
These berries are best eaten same day or within 24 hours. After that, the chocolate may sweat and berries begin to lose some juice as they rest. For best results make sure to consume within 48 hours as anything after that won’t be as good.
Can I freeze chocolate strawberries?
You could if you truly wanted to however that would make it very hard to bite into later. As the berries thaw, that chocolate would sweat and the berries would soften and become off-color or unappealing. For best results only use a freeze to help set chocolate quickly and not for a possible storage solution.
Where to find colored candy melts
I have always had great success in finding colored candy melts in my local Walmart or craft stores. You can also find them at various online retailers including Amazon.
