Tips for Making This Brushetta
This is such a simple and versatile recipe that you can make additions and substitutions and still have it turn out great. I use homegrown tomatoes from my garden and switch between the larger variety and the smaller grape tomatoes depending on what’s ready to be harvested.
I’ve made this recipe so many times that I never measure anymore, I just toss in what I already have and it always turns out great. As you get comfortable with it, you can do the same!
Is Bruschetta Served Hot or Cold?
It can be served either way depending on what you feel in the mood for. You may find that during the colder winter months the warm bruschetta tastes better whereas serving it cold is nicer in the heat of summer. It’s your preference either way.
How Can I Toast Bread Without A Broiler?
You can slow toast it in the oven on a baking sheet (or directly on the racks)! Place our bread slices on the baking sheet as directed and bake them at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes until golden colored, making sure to flip halfway through.
Simple Homemade Bruchetta Ingredients
-1/2 cup diced fresh tomatoes
-2 TBSP fresh basil, torn into pieces
-1 TBSP Balsamic vinegar
-1/2 tsp minced garlic
-2 TBSP grated Parmesan cheese
-a couple of dashes of coarse salt
-fresh mozzarella pearls {optional, but worth the added cost if it’s in the budget!}
-about 1/4 cup olive oil
-6 slices of french bread
How to Make Simple Homemade Bruschetta
In a mixing bowl, combine the tomatoes, basil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, parmesan cheese, and salt. Many recipes state to allow the flavors to meld in the fridge for a few hours. This is ideal of course, but just letting it sit for 20 minutes is better than nothing and helps the flavors to develop and taste great too.
Preheat the oven to broil and while the tomato mixture is chilling, slice the bread, arrange on a baking sheet and drizzle olive oil on top. I pour my oil in a small bowl and brush it on to get a more even coating.
Once the oven is adequately heated, put the bread in and keep a close eye! It only takes a few minutes to toast the bread to a nice golden brown.
Take the bread out and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Arrange the mozzarella pearls on each slice. Depending on how big your slices are, you’ll use 1-4 pearls each.
Stir the tomato mixture and spoon about 1-2 TBSP on each slice of bread. Serve immediately.
