Mint Oreo Balls are made with only three ingredients—minty OREO cookies, creamy cream cheese, and luscious green chocolate—and taste so good, no one will believe they started as cookies!
These Oreo Cookie Balls are one of my family’s favorite treats, made with just three simple ingredients: crushed mint Oreo cookies, creamy cream cheese, and smooth green chocolate. Every St. Patrick’s Day, we make a batch together, and it’s always the first thing to disappear! We all love how creamy, minty, and bite-sized they are. They’re the perfect festive treat for family gatherings, holiday parties, or just a fun weekend in the kitchen with loved ones.

Ingredients Truffle Oreo Balls
Mint OREO Cookies (15.25 oz. package, finely crushed): These cookies form the flavorful base of the truffles, giving them that classic minty Oreo taste and a slightly crunchy texture that blends perfectly with the cream cheese.
Cream Cheese (8 oz. brick, softened): The cream cheese binds the crushed cookies together into a smooth, creamy mixture, making it easy to roll into perfect bite-sized balls.
Melting Chocolate (2 ½ cups, mint green and semi-sweet): The chocolate coats each truffle in a sweet, festive shell, adding a rich flavor and smooth finish that makes them irresistible and fun to decorate.
Tips for making perfect Oreo Cookie Balls
Chill Before Dipping: Freeze the rolled cookie balls for 20–30 minutes before dipping in chocolate to prevent crumbs from mixing into your coating and to help the chocolate set smoothly.
Use the Right Tool: A 3-pronged Wilton dipping fork makes it incredibly easy to dip each Oreo Ball evenly in chocolate without getting messy.
Choose the Best Chocolate: Dipping chocolate works best for a smooth finish, but if you use chocolate chips (especially for mint green), add about ½ teaspoon of shortening or coconut oil per cup to make it melt perfectly and coat the truffles evenly.
How to Store Oreo Balls
Because of the cream cheese, Oreo Balls should be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where they’ll stay fresh for 2–3 weeks.
For longer storage, they can be frozen in an airtight container for up to 2 months—just thaw in the fridge before serving.
Mint Oreo Balls
Mint Oreo Balls are made with only three ingredients—minty OREO cookies, creamy cream cheese, and luscious green chocolate—and taste so good, no one will believe they started as cookies!
Crush the Oreo cookies. I used a blender, but you can use a small food processor, or you can place the cookies in a sealed plastic bag and smash them with a meat mallet! I found that the blender worked best when I did half the cookies at a time, rather than trying to crush all 36 at once. Use a fork to stir the mixture up between blends to get the finest consistency.
Mix the crumbs with the cream cheese until well blended.
Use a cookie scoop to measure out about 1.5 TBSP of the cookie mixture and roll each scoop into a ball. Place Oreo balls on a parchment or wax paper lined cookie sheet. Freeze the balls for about 20-30 minutes before dipping.
Melt the candy coating or melting chocolate in the microwave for about 1 minute 20 seconds. Stir gently until smooth, returning to the microwave in 15 second increments, if needed.
Dip each ball in the chocolate and place back on lined pan.
Place 1 TBSP green chocolate chips or semi sweet chocolate chips in a sandwich bag, microwave it for 40 seconds. Gently massage the bag then snip a tiny corner of the bag and drizzle chocolate onto each Oreo ball. Sprinkle with green sprinkles, if you’d like. Serve & enjoy!

Notes
Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 2–3 weeks, or freeze for up to 2 months.
Yes! You can use classic Oreos, but the truffles won’t have the minty flavor that makes them perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.
Do I have to use cream cheese?
Yes, the cream cheese is essential—it binds the cookie crumbs into a smooth, rollable mixture and keeps the truffles creamy.
Can I make these ahead of time?
Absolutely! You can prepare the balls a day or two in advance, keep them refrigerated, and dip them in chocolate right before serving.
What’s the best way to crush the cookies?
Use a blender or food processor for the easiest results, or place them in a sealed bag and crush with a rolling pin or meat mallet. Crushing in batches gives the finest texture.
Can I use chocolate chips instead of dipping chocolate?
Yes—just add about ½ teaspoon of shortening or coconut oil per cup to get a smooth, easy-to-dip consistency.

ABOUT US
I began Butter, with a Side of Bread to delve deeper into my fascination with food! I love cooking easy, delicious recipes and trying out new products. Welcome and I hope you stick around! Meet Jessica & Nellie...
You can find them on the baking aisle- by the other chocolate chips! I find Walmart has them year round. Other stores near me have them intermittently.
They’re an awesome treat. You’ll need 2 cups of chocolate which is roughly a bag of melting chocolate or chocolate chips but the amount really varies depending on how thick you make the coating on the oreo balls or if you get fancy with extra drizzling 🙂
These are so good! If you have an Instant Pot, this works great!
Pour 2 cups of water into the bottom of your Instant Pot. Turn your Instant Pot to the saute setting adjust to “more.”
Place a glass or metal bowl that sits in/on the Instant Pot without falling in on top of the Instant Pot
Add the chocolate into the bowl. Stir every minute until the chocolate is smooth and melted. Turn the Instant Pot to the Keep Warm setting.
Place a pretzel on a fork. Lower the pretzel into the chocolate. Coat the pretzel in the chocolate. Tap off excess chocolate. Then place the pretzel on a piece of parchment or waxed paper. Repeat until all the chocolate is used.
Notes
If you use chocolate chips add 1 Tbsp of shortening in with the chocolate chips. This will give a better finish and look and feel of the chocolate.

Do these need to stay refrigerated since they have cream cheese or can they sit out for several hours at a potluck?
Jessica says
I store them in the fridge, then pull them out when ready to serve and return them to the fridge after a couple hours.
