A Whimsical Treat to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
Lush desserts are known for their indulgent layers and this one is no different. However instead of featuring fruit or chocolate, I highlighted Lucky Charms cereal! It’s the perfect festive treat for St. Patrick’s day, which is a holiday I tend to just gloss over to be honest. So when I surprise my kids with a festive lush dessert like this, it’s a major win! Tap in to that whimsy deep inside and enjoy.
Recipe Notes
A few things you should know right now:
- This dessert needs to chill at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to make sure the layers are fully set. So plan ahead!
- Yes, you can use different boxes of pudding. You will need two of the 3.4oz size. I used vanilla, but feel free to swap those out for something more adventurous!
- You don’t need a ton of cereal, only about 1 cup + some to sprinkle on top. So a small box is fine! If you’re lucky and can just find the dehydrated marshmallows at your grocery store, you can just use those instead. (I did put some cereal in with the base layer crust, but you can just leave it out.)

Lucky Charms Dessert Ingredients
Oreo Cookies: Use vanilla Oreo cookies for the base of the crust.
Luck Charms cereal: You’ll need ½ cup of the cereal part of lucky charms, as well as ½ cup of the marshmallows from the cereal.
Butter: Bind the crust using 6 TBSP of butter, melted.
Cream cheese: For the filling use one 8-oz package of cream cheese, softened.
Powder sugar: Sweeten the filling by adding in some powdered sugar.
Whipped topping: Two 8-oz tubs of whipped topping are needed to make this dessert.
Vanilla pudding: Two boxes of vanilla instant pudding mix are used for one of the layers in this treat.
Milk: Combine the pudding with 2 ½ cups of cold milk.
Food coloring: You’ll need some green food coloring to make this dish extra fun & festive!
Additional garnish: Sprinkle more cereal on top, add some whipped cream clouds, and a sour rainbow rope for whimsical fun!

Key Tips for Making a Layered Dessert Lush
You can see the full instructions below, but here are a few key points when making this layered dessert:
- Use a food processor for crushing the cookies! This ensures the cookies are all evenly pulverized and helps the crust to have a more tender bite.
- Add more Marshmallows if you’d like! Feel free to adjust the amount of Lucky Charms marshmallows, I tend to measure these with my heart; do what feels right to yours. More marshmallows just enhance the sweetness and provide a delightful texture. Oh and did you know you can buy JUST the Lucky Charm marshmallows? Check them out here!
- Make sure the cream cheese is softened. You can simply take the cream cheese out of the fridge about an hour before you need it. If you want it softened faster, I like to wrap the foil sealed package in a wash cloth saturated with hot water for a few minutes.
- Don’t forget the super cute rainbow garnish! This dessert is perfect for St. Patrick’s day and the darling gummy rainbows on top of the cake add the perfect final touch.
How long is this Luck Charms Dessert good for?
Store leftovers of this dessert in the refrigerator in an airtight container and it will last for 3-5 days.
This dessert can be frozen for up to 2 months, but it’s best enjoyed fresh. If you do freeze it, let it thaw in the refrigerator before serving to maintain the texture of the whipped topping.

How do I get a creamy filling using cream cheese?
The key is to ensure your cream cheese is completely softened. Beat it well with powdered sugar until it’s nice and smooth. This creates a creamy texture that blends perfectly with the whipped topping.
Can I switch up the pudding flavor in this recipe?
Absolutely! While vanilla pudding works best, you can experiment with other flavors like chocolate or butterscotch. Just keep in mind that it will change the overall taste of your dessert.
