Easy Cheddar Cheeseburgers are made with ground beef, sharp cheddar cheese, and a bold blend of seasonings for a simple, flavor-packed burger night. Just mix, grill, and melt—then stack them on buns for a juicy homemade cheeseburger that tastes like summer cookout perfection!
These Easy Cheddar Cheeseburgers aren’t your average grill burgers—the cheddar gets mixed right into the beef, so every bite is juicy, cheesy, and full of flavor instead of just sitting on top. It’s super simple, no weird steps or fancy tricks, but it somehow turns out way better than the usual backyard burger. If you’ve had dry or kinda “meh” burgers before, this is the one that’ll make you rethink them.
Recipe Highlights
- Cheddar in every bite– The cheese isn’t just melted on top—it’s mixed right into the beef, so you get that rich, cheesy flavor in the burger itself, not just the finish.
- Simple ingredients, big flavor– Just ground beef, cheddar, and a bold seasoning blend—nothing complicated, but it still tastes like something you’d get at a really good burger spot.
- Juicy, grill-perfect texture– These patties stay tender on the grill and don’t dry out easily, giving you that juicy, slightly crispy-edge burger everyone actually wants.

Ingredients for Cheese Stuffed Cheeseburgers
Ground beef: The base of the burgers, providing a juicy, hearty foundation that holds everything together.
Homemade BBQ seasoning: Adds smoky, slightly sweet, and savory flavor that seasons the beef all the way through.
Shredded cheddar cheese: Melts right into the patties, giving them that rich, cheesy flavor in every bite instead of just on top.
Sliced cheese for topping: Melts over the finished patties for an extra layer of gooey, classic cheeseburger goodness.
Hamburger buns: Hold everything together and soak up all the juicy, flavorful goodness from the burger.
Additional condiments/toppings: Let you customize each burger with fresh, crunchy, creamy, or tangy extras like lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and sauces.
Homemade BBQ Seasoning
Brown sugar: Adds a subtle sweetness that balances the smoky and spicy flavors in the seasoning.
Salt: Enhances all the other flavors and makes the beef taste more savory and well-rounded.
Paprika: Brings mild smokiness and a warm depth of flavor without overpowering the burger.
Chili powder: Adds a gentle kick and extra savory spice to boost the overall seasoning blend.
Black pepper: Gives a sharp, slightly earthy heat that keeps the flavor from being too sweet or flat.
Cayenne pepper: Adds a little heat at the end for a subtle spicy kick that lingers just enough.
Tips for making the Best Cheeseburgers
- Mix the cheese into the meat gently, not aggressively: You want the cheddar evenly distributed, but overmixing will make the burgers dense instead of juicy. Think “just combined,” not “worked into submission.”
- Let the patties rest before grilling: Even 10–15 minutes in the fridge helps them firm up so they hold together better and don’t fall apart when they hit the grill.
- Don’t press the burgers while they cook: It’s tempting, but pressing squeezes out all those flavorful juices (and the melted cheddar). Let them do their thing untouched for the best texture.

How long are grilled cheeseburgers good for?
Cooked cheeseburgers are generally safe to eat for about 3 to 4 days when stored in the refrigerator at or below 40°F (4°C), as long as they’re kept in an airtight container or well wrapped. After that point, even if they still look and smell okay, the risk of bacteria growth increases.
Freezing is definitely recommended if you don’t plan to eat them within a few days, since it helps preserve them for longer. In the freezer, they’ll keep their best quality for about 2 to 3 months, though they may still be safe beyond that with some loss of texture and flavor. For best results, wrap them tightly to prevent freezer burn, and reheat thoroughly until hot all the way through before eating.

Easy Cheeseburger Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 TBSP Homemade BBQ seasoning
- ¾ cup Shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 slices of your favorite cheese for topping
- 4 Hamburger buns
- Additional Condiments/Toppings like sliced tomato lettuce, red onion, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles
Homemade BBQ Seasoning Ingredients:
- 2 TBSP Brown Sugar
- 2 TBSP Salt
- 1 TBSP Paprika
- 1 TBSP Chili Powder
- ½ TBSP Black Pepper
- ½ TBSP Cayenne Pepper
Instructions
- Pre heat your grill to medium-high to high heat, around 375 to 400 degrees F.
- Hand mix the ground beef, BBQ rub and shredded cheese in a mixing bowl. Divide the hamburger into 3-4 equal sizes, depending on how big you want your patties. Roll the meat into a ball and flatten to make the patties. For best results, make the patties about the same diameter as your hamburger bun. Use a 1 tsp measuring spoon or your thumb to make a 1/4″-1/2″ indentation in the center of each patty.
- Place the patties on the grill, over direct heat. Flip when they no longer stick to the grill, approximately 5 minutes per side.
- When the burgers are done cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and let sit on the grill, over indirect heat, for no more than a minute.
- Once the sliced cheese is slightly melted, remove the burgers from the grill and serve immediately on a bun with your favorite toppings/condiments. Enjoy!!

Can I substitute other meat for the ground beef?
Personally, I have only made this recipe with hamburger, ground elk meat and ground bratwurst. Both add a great flavor and are amazing made into cheeseburgers!
You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken too. If you are planning on using ground turkey or chicken, be aware that they can be leaner than your typical red meats. You will need to adjust the grilling times accordingly, so as not to over cook the meat and dry it out.
Can you cook cheeseburgers on the stove top?
Yes, you absolutely can. I have made these burgers on the stove top many times. You have to choose which frying pan you use carefully though. As the burgers start to cook, and the shredded cheese starts to melt, if you are not using a nonstick frying pan, or a well seasoned cast iron skillet, the cheese will stick to the bottom of your pan.
How do I keep my burgers from swelling up while cooking?
To stop the inevitable swelling up of your burger while grilling, simply use your thumb and press down on the middle of the patty before placing on the grill. The indentation from your thumbprint helps keep the burger flatter after being grilled.
