This is such a simple asparagus recipe that only requires just a few ingredients and a little bit of cooking time!
To make this easy asparagus recipe start by preparing your asparagus. When you buy asparagus it usually comes in one big bunch. Wash the asparagus spears well to remove any excess dirt.
Place the asparagus onto a cutting board and remove the woody bottom from each of the spears. A simple way to do this is to take one of the asparagus spears and bend it from the bottom while holding onto the top. The asparagus should snap near the bottom.
Line the spear that you have snapped next to the other spears and slice at the same length. If you would like, you can snap each spear individually.
Next, prepare the cream sauce by combining the cream, half of the butter, half of the parmesan cheese and salt and pepper. Place the asparagus in a baking dish and pour the cream sauce over the top. You want it to cover the asparagus.
Put the creamy asparagus in the oven at 375º F and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the asparagus is just tender. The sauce will also thicken in the oven as it bakes.
While the asparagus is cooking, combine the remaining butter and parmesan cheese with the bread crumbs and mix until they are well combined and the bread crumbs are a little moistened by the melted butter.
Remove the creamy asparagus from the oven and sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top. Place the asparagus back in the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the breadcrumbs are golden and crisp.
This creamy baked asparagus recipe is best made just before serving. If you would like to prep the recipe ahead so you can just throw it in the oven right before eating, prepare the asparagus by cleaning and slicing, store in the refrigerator until ready to bake.
Prepare the cream mixture and breadcrumbs just before baking.
