Christmas Brownie Wedges made from a brownie mix & an incredible cream cheese frosting for darling, festive Christmas tree & Santa hat brownies!

I love Christmas recipes that are so incredibly easy to make! Aren’t these darling?! And they’re very simple to decorate. You’ll need a basic frosting piping set like this one. Just bake the brownies, cut them into wedges and pipe frosting on to decorate!
Ingredients for Christmas Brownies
Brownie mix: You need one 18.3-oz box brownie mix. Plus, the ingredients called for on the box (usually eggs, oil, and water). This provides the chocolate flavor, sweetness, and structure for these festive wedges.
Cream Cheese Frosting
Powder sugar: ¾ cup powdered sugar, sifted, sweetens the frosting and helps it thicken to a smooth, pipeable consistency.
Butter: For a creamy structure, butter gives the frosting a silky texture that holds its shape.
Cream cheese: ⅔ cup cream cheese, cold, provides tangy flavor, richness, and stability to the frosting.
Food coloring: Red and green gel food coloring brings bold Christmas color without watering down the frosting.
Sprinkles: Festive Christmas sprinkles add a fun finish with pops of holiday color.

Tips for making Frosted Brownies
- For the best results, use gel food coloring—it creates bold, vibrant holiday colors without thinning or altering the texture of your frosting.
- If you choose to substitute whipped cream for the cream cheese, just keep in mind the frosting will be much softer and more delicate. It’s still delicious, but those decorated wedges are best piped and served right away.
- You can frost all eight brownie wedges for a full festive display, or leave a few plain for a charming mix of decorated and classic fudgy brownies—both are irresistible on a holiday dessert tray!
How long are these brownies good for?
These Christmas brownie wedges will stay fresh for 3–4 days when stored properly. The brownie base stays soft and fudgy, and the frosting holds well during that time.
Store the brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator due to the cream cheese frosting. For the best texture, allow them to sit at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before serving.

Can I freeze the brownies?
Yes—these brownies freeze well! Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze until firm, then transfer to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. They can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator, then bring to room temperature before serving. If decorated with sprinkles, note that some sprinkle colors may slightly bleed when thawed, so undecorated brownies freeze most cleanly.

Christmas Brownies
Ingredients
For the Brownies:
- 18.3 oz box brownie mix 520 g
- Ingredients called for on the box: eggs, oil, & water
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- ¾ cup powdered sugar sifted (2.8 oz, 80g)
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter softened (80g)
- ⅔ cup cream cheese cold (160g, 5.6 oz)
- Red and green gel food coloring
- Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
- Bake the Brownies: Preheat oven according to brownie mix instructions (usually 175°C / 350°F). Grease and line a 8-9" round baking pan with parchment paper.
- Prepare the brownie mix according to package instructions. Pour the batter into the pan and tap the pan to settle the batter and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- To make the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the butter and sifted powdered sugar together until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes). Add the cold cream cheese and beat until smooth and creamy. Do not overmix. Divide the frosting into three bowls. One portion stays white. Add green food coloring to one bowl for the Christmas tree. Add red food coloring to another for Santa’s hat.
- Once the pan of brownies has cooled, remove it from the pan. Slice it into 8 wedges (like a pizza).
- To decorate like a Christmas Tree: Pipe the green frosting in a zigzag pattern using a star or round tip. Decorate with sprinkles to mimic lights.
- To decorate like a Santa Hat: Pipe the red frosting over the triangle. Then use white frosting to pipe the base and a small pom-pom at the tip of the hat. Serve and enjoy!

Yes! You can use your favorite from-scratch recipe. Just make sure it’s suitable for a round pan and fudgy enough to hold shape. We love this recipe for homemade brownies.

Ideas & Variations for Christmas Brownies
- Add a splash of peppermint extract to the frosting for a festive mint chocolate twist that tastes like a holiday hot cocoa in brownie form.
- Drizzle melted white chocolate over the undecorated wedges for a pretty bakery-style finish and an extra layer of sweetness.
- Sprinkle crushed candy canes over the frosting for a crunchy, colorful topping with classic peppermint flavor and wintery flair.
- Have fun decorating each wedge with a different theme—a reindeer face with chocolate chips, a snowman made of piped rounds, or colorful ornaments dotted with sprinkles. It’s a great way to get kids involved or let everyone create their own holiday-themed treat!
Can I make these fudgy brownies ahead of time?
Absolutely! Bake and cool the brownie a day ahead. Store tightly wrapped at room temp. Decorate the next day.
Can I use mascarpone instead of cream cheese?
Yes — mascarpone can be used in place of cream cheese, and it creates an even richer, creamier frosting with a slightly more delicate texture. Mascarpone has a higher fat content and a milder flavor, so the frosting will taste less tangy and a bit more luxurious. Because it’s softer, be sure to keep the frosting chilled before piping and store the decorated brownies in the refrigerator to help the frosting hold its shape.
