Ingredients

For the Brownies:

  • 18.3 oz box brownie mix 520 g
  • Ingredients called for on the box: eggs, oil, & water

Cream Cheese Frosting:

Instructions

  • Bake the Brownies: Preheat oven according to brownie mix instructions (usually 175°C / 350°F). Grease and line a 8-9" round baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the brownie mix according to package instructions. Pour the batter into the pan and tap the pan to settle the batter and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  • To make the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the butter and sifted powdered sugar together until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes). Add the cold cream cheese and beat until smooth and creamy. Do not overmix. Divide the frosting into three bowls. One portion stays white. Add green food coloring to one bowl for the Christmas tree. Add red food coloring to another for Santa’s hat.
  • Once the pan of brownies has cooled, remove it from the pan. Slice it into 8 wedges (like a pizza).
  • To decorate like a Christmas Tree: Pipe the green frosting in a zigzag pattern using a star or round tip. Decorate with sprinkles to mimic lights.
  • To decorate like a Santa Hat: Pipe the red frosting over the triangle. Then use white frosting to pipe the base and a small pom-pom at the tip of the hat. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For thinner, smaller brownies, bake in two 6" springform pans or one 6" and one 8" pan. (so you can bake them both at once!)
Store the brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator due to the cream cheese frosting. They will stay fresh for 3–4 days.
For longer storage, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze until firm, then transfer to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. They can be frozen for up to 2 months.
