Berry Jello Parfait Ingredients
Water: You will need 1 ½ cups of boiling water to dissolve the jello mix for this recipe.
Jello: Using one 3-ounce package of either Raspberry, Strawberry, or Blackberry flavored gelatin will create a wonderfully tasty treat. I made mine with the blackberry fusion flavor, and it was simply divine.
Berries: 1 heaping cup of berries, whatever your preference is, will create a filling and delicious dish. I used blackberries, raspberries and blueberries in my parfaits.
Whipped topping: Adding one 8-ounce tub of whipped topping, thawed and divided, will give this treat an amazing creamy texture.
Easy step by step on how to make Berry Jello Parfaits
Prep
Start by washing your berries well, remove any stems, and cut them into quarters if you use a large berry like a strawberry. For raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries, you can keep them whole.
In small clear cups, pour some of each fresh berry in the bottom to fill it about a ¼ of the cup. Then set the cups aside.
Jello
Combine the boiling water and the gelatin mix in a large bowl with a pouring spout or a large 4-cup measuring cup. You can heat the water in the microwave until boiling, or on the stove top in a sauce pan, whichever you prefer. Whisk until the Jello has dissolved completely.
Next, add in ½ of the 8-ounce tub of whipped topping into the Jello mixture and whisk until blended.
Proceed to pour the Jello liquid into the 6 bowls/cups on top of the fresh berries.
Chill
Place the cups or bowls in the refrigerator for about 2 hours until the Jello has set and is firm.
When fully chilled, top each cup with a large dollop of the remaining whipped topping and additional berries. Serve and enjoy!
Variations and Substitutes for Jello Parfaits
Dietary Adjustments
For those who are looking for a healthier version of this dessert, there are a few adjustments that can be made. Instead of using regular Jello, sugar-free Jello can be used instead. This will significantly reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe. Additionally, Greek yogurt or coconut cream can be used instead of whipped cream to make it dairy-free and lower in calories.
Flavor Twists
While the classic berry flavor is delicious, there are many other ways to flavor this dessert. Here are a few ideas:
- Citrus: Use orange or lemon Jello and top with fresh citrus segments.
- Tropical: Use pineapple or mango Jello and top with diced tropical fruit like papaya and kiwi.
- Chocolate: Use chocolate pudding instead of Jello and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
- Nutty: Add chopped nuts like almonds or pecans to the top of the parfait for a crunchy texture.

Why might gelatin sometimes fail to set properly in parfaits?
There are a few reasons why gelatin may fail to set properly in parfaits. One reason could be that not enough gelatin was used in the recipe.
