I absolutely love homemade bread, in any form, there is something extra special about it. However, there are some in the family that are sensitive to certain ingredients and dairy being one of them. This bread recipe was created so everyone could still enjoy fresh baked bread! These bread loaves have lovely flavor and texture, the bread is soft, fluffy and delicious. You can use the bread for sandwiches, toast in the morning or even just to enjoy a slice at dinner. Give this easy vegan bread recipe a try and see for yourself how amazing it is!
BEST BREAD PAN?
I bake a lot of bread and the pans I prefer are either ceramic, glass or cast iron. These pans will bake bread more evenly and release the bread more easily after baking. I don’t like using dark or nonstick pans because the bread cooks unevenly. It darkens on the outside before the bread is cooked on the inside, so the coloring is uneven. Vegan Bread Ingredients
Butter: You will need ¼ cup of vegan butter (dairy butter if you are not vegan) to create a nice rich loaf of bread.
Milk: Adding in 1 ½ cups of oat milk (substitute any milk, plant milk or dairy milk) to help make the bread nice and moist.
Sugar: For subtle sweet flavor, use ¼ cup of sugar in this bread recipe.
Salt: To enhance all the flavors, you will need 1 tsp of salt.
Flour: The base of this bread recipe is 3 ½ – 4 cups of all-purpose flour.
Yeast: Add in 2 ¼ tsp of dry active yeast (1 packet) to make the dough rise perfectly.
How to make Easy Homemade Vegan Bread
Dough
In a small saucepan combine the butter, oat milk, sugar, and salt. Proceed to cook over medium heat and allow the butter to just melt. You want this mixture to get to about 110 degrees F, no warmer.
While the milk and butter mixture is coming to temp, in your Kitchen Aid mixing bowl, add 2 cups of the flour and the yeast. With the dough hook attachment added, stir to combine the flour and yeast mixture.
Once the butter and milk mixture is warmed to between 100-110 degrees, add the wet mixture to the bowl of flour mixture. Stir at medium speed to fully combine, scrape the sides of the bowl down to make sure everything is well incorporated.
The dough will be wet, slowly add the rest of the flour to the dough. Once the dough doesn’t stick to the edges, speed up the mixer and allow to kneed the dough for about 5 minutes.
Let dough rise
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl (spray with non-stick cooking spray) and cover it with a tea cloth or plastic wrap. Allow the dough to set for about 1.5 hours or until it has doubled in sized.
Once the dough has risen, lightly flour a clean surface and transfer the dough to it. Continue to divide the ball of dough into 2 equal parts.
Next, lightly grease 2 loaf pans and set aside.
Then, spread out the dough into a 10×13 rectangle, roll up the dough to form a loaf shape tucking in the edges. Transfer the piece of dough to the lightly greased loaf pan. Repeat this process for the other half of bread dough.
After that, allow the dough to rise in the pans for 30 minutes.
Bake
Now, get the oven preheating to 375 degrees. Place both pans in the oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the top of the loaf is golden brown.
Let the bread cool for a few minutes, then serve with some jam, vegan butter, or use in a sandwich. Enjoy!

How do you store Vegan Homemade bread loaves?
To keep your bread as fresh as possible, store each loaf in an airtight container and in the fridge for up to 5 days. This will give you plenty of time to enjoy this treat.
Can I freeze the bread dough?
Yes, the dough freezes well. Before the second rise, separate the dough in half, wrap each piece of dough in parchment paper and place in separate freezer bags. Make sure the air has been released. You can store the dough in the freezer for up to 5 months.
To bake, remove the prepared dough from the freezer and allow to thaw at room temperature. Once the dough has thawed fully, shape the dough into a loaf shape (see instructions above) and place into a prepared loaf pan. Allow to rise for 30-45 minutes.
What substitutions can I make in this vegan bread recipe?
Once thing you can substitute is the oat milk for any milk of your choice. Feel free to use whatever type of butter you like as well, this is created as a vegan bread but don’t have to be. I have also not tested this recipe using coconut oil in lieu of butter, feel free to give it a try and let me know how it turns out in the comments below.
